This World Mental Health Day, we’re highlighting the impact stalking can have on mental health.
Our 2025 research found that 95% of stalking victims reported experiencing mental health challenges. Yet only 7% of healthcare professionals felt very confident identifying stalking.
Stalking can leave victims feeling anxious, isolated, fearful & constantly on alert. Many victims may first seek help through health services.
We are calling for stalking to be recognised in NHS Steps to Safety so victims can be identified and connected to the right support.
There is still work to do. By working together, sharing knowledge and supporting organisations to improve safety, we can help create safer environments for everyone.

@HMIProbation We are calling for: review of stalking’s exclusion from exemptions; specialist risk assessment & safety planning in consultation with ISACs/ISAs; independent stalking training; and timely and case-specific information for victims & frontline services.

As prisoners are released today under the Early Release Scheme, serious questions remain about whether the criminal justice system is ready to manage the increased risk, particularly for victims of stalking.
❗️ We are extremely disappointed that this is going ahead. [1/4]
@HMIProbation This raises questions about whether restriction zones & electronic monitoring can provide the protection stalking victims are being led to expect.
It is deeply disappointing that this is happening, while concerns raised for months remain unanswered. [3/4]
