I'm so proud of the race @nanwhaley & @CherylForOhio ran. While it wasn't the result we wanted, we left it all on the field and stayed true to our values - in a race that was stacked against us from the beginning. With that, here are a few parting thoughts on #OHGov 1/ 🧵
In honor of Indigenous People's Day today, I'm pausing to consider not only our *history* of brutalization but also our *present* and the deep significance of representation. Shoutout to @OhioEnviro for educating folks on this petition. https://t.co/COYUE1aECY
Congratulations to Bowling Green Councilmember @NickRubando on this ordinance to protect people's reproductive choices! Love when we can collaborate across cities to share good work. CC @ProChoiceOH https://t.co/BH1LdBJSGr
Today we talked about the $200 million Affordable Housing Bond package that will help create Mulby Place, being built right now in Linden, without raising taxes. Thanks to @HomeportOH, @sdfavor, @lizforus, @Elford_Inc and so many other partners.
We’re blown away by the support from everyone in our community and beyond! It means so much to see all the love for CMA workers United ❤️🔥 ✊
We also want to thank these Columbus officials for writing their letters of support! @RobDorans@lizforus! ⚡️#CMAWorkersUnited
From affordable housing to addressing rising costs, we have to focus on ways to help working families thrive, especially for moms and kids.
Thank you to the leadership & members of Motherful for hosting a Working Moms Roundtable with Columbus Councilperson @lizclarkebrown 💙
We see education as the great equalizer. But w/o bold steps for great schools, public education also reproduces inequality. THAT is why students will benefit from the fearless @ColumbusEA educators who walked the picket line this week! Thank you! https://t.co/w6MePHxEpP
@lizforus@ColumbusEA Thank you @lizforus ‼️Can’t begin to express how much our family visits, food deliveries, the cheers/honks from those passing by & the many families who join the line to walk in #solidarity beside their teachers means to ALL of us! Thank YOU!! #ColumbusStudentsDeserve
My 1st grader holding hands w one of her @ColumbusEA teachers on the picket line.♥️ She and her brother and I picketed this morning bc we know they’re sacrificing a lot to fight for our students. We drove home w grateful hearts for that sacrifice AND for all the hugs they got.
It’s also what the collective bargaining process is for. I’m disappointed the Board gave their final offer days before they needed to, and it’s time to get to the negotiating table. Let’s deliver a contract that gets students back to school AND sets them up for long-term success.
Everything I know about @ColumbusEA teachers, they sure as hell want to be in the classroom w their students, but to do so they must have a strong contract that dignifies their work and delivers for their students. That’s what teachers are striking for and I support their fight.
Remote learning, esp w substitutes/staff crossing a picket line, is not good for kids or the community, as has been proven. I urge all parties to get back to the table and not to leave until there is resolution. Stay present. Reach an agreement. Our students deserve nothing less.
On August 24, Columbus students deserve adults who will finally get out of their way. They deserve to be able to walk into their school buildings and begin a new school year — in person with their teachers.
Unfortunately, this imperative is in question due to the lack of results in the collective bargaining process between the Columbus Board of Education and the Columbus Education Association, which if unresolved will harm our students above anyone else.
As a CCS parent, I believe in the opportunities created every day by the teachers and staff in our schools. I also believe we all have asked young people to bear the brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic and to shoulder the burden of adults’ inaction or miscalculations, repeatedly.
So much gratitude to @ColumbusGov, @lizforus, @sdfavor and @lourdesforcbus for partnering w/ @PPGreaterOH to provide $500K for abortion patient support and pass ordinances to help protect Columbus folks from some of the cruel anti-abortion policies in Ohio https://t.co/6V5uHVvIbz
Wow, a new report by @ohioenviro@poweracleanOH and Scioto Analysis estimates that Ohio will need to increase municipal spending $6 billion per year by 2050 in order to adapt to the challenges of a worsening #ClimateCrisis: https://t.co/uO77GqOiGN #OhioClimateCosts
