Ten #Bahai women were detained in Baharestan, near Isfahan, #Iran today by the Islamic Republic's security forces at 6am without warrants or prior notification. Agents reportedly scaled walls and coerced neighbors to raid the homes of Boshra Motahhar, Sara Shakib, Sanaz Rasteh, Shourangiz Bahamin, Firouzeh Rastinejad, Maryam Khorsandi, Mojgan Pourshafi, Nasrin Khademi, Roya Azadkhosh, and Azita Rezvanikhah. Some of these women are mothers of young children, while others care for elderly parents. They have all previously been unjustly sentenced to prison terms.

The Baha’i International Community is appalled by this latest outrage, particularly just two days before Iran’s human rights review at the UN. Baha’i women face a dual violation of their #HumanRights—as women and as Baha’is—as highlighted in a recent statement by @UN human rights experts. We call for the immediate release of these women.

Nine Members of #Bahai Family Arrested in #Tehran : #Iranian authorities say they have arrested nine members of a Baha'i family in Tehran on charges including money laundering and tax evasion, amid an intensifying crackdown on the religious minority.
The group is accused of " committing all kinds of violations and crimes," including "smuggling and hoarding medicine, fraud, money laundering…and tax evasion," the Ministry of Intelligence said on August 13.
The Iranian government has intensified its #crackdown on #Bahais , arresting and imprisoning dozens of them on spurious charges over the past few weeks.
#Shia Islam is the state religion in Iran. The constitution recognizes several minority faiths, including Christianity, Judaism, and Zoroastrianism, but not the Baha'i faith.
