You are great, O God,
and greatly to be praised.
You have made us for yourself,
and our hearts are restless
until they rest in you.
Grant that we may believe in you,
call upon you, know you,
and serve you, through your Son,
Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen.

Venezuela: LWF’s solidarity and prayers of encouragement
The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) expresses its deep solidarity with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Venezuela (IELV) and with the people of Venezuela following the devastating earthquakes that struck the country this week.
"We are deeply saddened by the scale of this tragedy, the irreparable loss of life, and the material damage that have left so many families in a situation of extreme vulnerability," General Secretary Rev. Dr Anne Burghardt wrote to IELV President Rev. Gerardo Hands.
LWF holds in prayers for all who are mourning, those affected by the disasters, the rescue teams, and all those providing relief and reconstruction in the aftermath of the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes near the capital, Caracas.
"Your pain is also the pain of your brothers and sisters in faith," Rev. Dr Anne Burghardt wrote, as she encouraged the church and people to “cultivate hope and to support one another during these difficult days.”

In 1530, Lutheran reformers presented the Augsburg Confession on 25 June not as a declaration of separation, but as a witness to the liberating truth of the gospel.
500 years later, that act of confessing still matters.
As we journey toward #CA500 in 2030, we ask: what does courageous, non-triumphalist witness look like in our very different contexts today?

The Lutheran World Federation stands with the people of Venezuela following two earthquakes near the capital Caracas on Wednesday evening, with dozens of people reported dead, hundreds injured and several buildings destroyed. The twin earthquakes of 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude are reported to be the strongest to have hit the country in over a century.
“We hold the people of Venezuela in our thoughts and prayers as they come to terms with this disaster,” says Allan Calma, LWF Global Humanitarian Coordinator. The LWF is assessing the situation with a goal of implementing a large-scale, multi-sector emergency response. “We are very grateful for the pledges already received from related agencies and member churches and we welcome additional support to enable us to respond effectively”.

God, the giver of life,
as you send us out to bear witness
to your ministry of reconciliation,
open our hearts
to receive you in our midst.
Stir up your Spirit to open our eyes
to your loving presence,
in the name of Jesus Christ,
your Son and our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit, one God,
now and forever. Amen.

Together We Pray
“Every voice [in ‘Together We Pray] carries its own rhythm, context, struggle, and hope. No single voice speaks for everyone, yet together these voices form a collective witness of faith, resilience, and hope,” said Rev. Rebecca Daniel speaking at the launch of a new LWF women’s prayer book.
Woven around the words of the Lord’s Prayer, it includes sections on birth and creation, peace and reconciliation, interreligious and intergenerational solidarity, healing and racial justice.

Teach us, good Lord God,
to serve you as you deserve,
to give and not to count the cost,
to labor and not to ask for reward,
except that of knowing
we do your will,
through Jesus Crist,
our Savior and Lord.
Amen.

Dr Marcia Blasi, editor of a new volume called ‘Together We Pray’.
