Family Expresses Gratitude To All Who Participated in Buhari’s Burial and Prayers

The most senior member of the Buhari family, the family of the late President, Muhammadu Buhari, Malam Mamman Daura has, on behalf of the family expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his wife, the First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu for their role and that of Government of the Federation before, and after the passing of the former president.

“It is truly comforting to receive such support from the President and the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, who went to the United Kingdom, and here in Daura, for the days he and the ministers during the mourning period. These have instilled confidence in all of us to face this loss with courage.

“We are deeply grateful to the President on his thoughtful gestures in declaring a public holiday and renaming the University of Maiduguri after Buhari.

“Our gratitude also goes to leaders of the various countries around the globe who either came in person, sent representatives, sent letters, or placed personal telephone calls to commiserate with us.

Of special note were those of the King of England, King Charles III, the Secretary General of the United Nations, the Deputy Secretary General, Amina Mohammed, the Chairman of the African Union, and that of the Committee of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS countries, and our former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar.

“Muhammadu Buhari’s demise is an irreparable loss and its pain is beyond words, but the general reaction and kind expressions give us the strength to cope with the loss of our esteemed family member and former leader of the country.

“The family is equally grateful to Vice President Kashim Shettima in his own person and his wife, and to all state governors, especially those of Katsina, the host governor Dr Dikko Umar Radda; Professor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State and all those who visited us in the UK and Daura from Adamawa, Kano, Kwara, Lagos, Kaduna, Imo, Nasarawa, Bauchi, Sokoto, Kebbi as well as the several former governors, including Dr Peter Obi for their compassionate words of condolence. Former President Muhammadu Buhari joins family, friends and the nation in celebrating the 90th birthday of guru journalist, columnist and publisher, Prince Samson Oruru Amuka Pemu, otherwise cherished as "Uncle Sam”, saying that those years would be written in gold in the annals of the nation’s history.

The former President recalls his beautiful relationship with the journalist and publisher, who, as he said, has used his years in the media to spread light.

“I owe a deep debt to him. They call him ‘Sad Sam,’ from the name of his column, but the distinctive style of his communication was spreading light. Not only did one get information from reading him, one also got also vision, which is very valuable.”

Continuing, the former President said, “Uncle Sam used his pen as a broom for cleaning up the rot in society. Few could match his crusading journalism. By continuing to awaken the government and society, the Vanguard newspapers, which he founded, continues to be in the forefront of service to the nation.

MY HEART BLEEDS OVER DEATHS IN FLOODS, AUTO CRASH, EX-PRESIDENT BUHARI TELLS NIGER, KANO STATES

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has sent messages of condolence following the death of more than one hundred persons in flash floods that destroyed homes and displaced thousands of residents last week in Niger state; and that of 22 young athletes, coaches, and officials, who died in a ghastly auto crash in Kano State.

In his messages to the bereaved families, governments and the people of Niger and Kano States, the former President said the tragic incidents, happening in a quick sequence, had left him shocked and devastated, as it did many people in different parts of the world.

“I am deeply pained by the loss of lives due to the floods in Niger State and the road accident in Kano State. The deaths are painful and devastating.

“Condolences to the families and friends of all those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon.”

“The railway system which used to be the heartbeat of several towns and cities, killed and buried for decades, opened a new chapter under his leadership, faithfully serving millions of Nigerians by increasing network capacity for passenger and freight services, helping to address demand, introducing new services and rolling stock, and improving safety.

TINUBU GETS BUHARI’S PRAISE, ADVICE AT MIDTERM

Former President Muhammadu Buhari congratulates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT on his mid-term, saying that as the party and the government celebrate, the country should be reminded that leadership is a continuous journey.

Muhammadu Buhari called for steadfast support for the APC government as it marks its second year in offIce, explaining that reforms would achieve success gradually, not overnight.

He warned that necessary reforms and desired changes must not fall victim to nettlesome domestic politics.

He expressed support for the ongoing efforts by the administration to curb poverty and inflation, which he says have hit the poorest families the hardest, adding however that the task of reducing poverty and inflation, which is immense, must not be left only for the government.

IN POPE FRANCIS'S DEATH, THE POOR AND MIGRANTS HAVE LOST A FRIEND

Former President Muhammadu Buhari joins Christians all across the world in mourning the demise of the Head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, who departed the earth on Easter Monday.

In a reaction to the news of the death, the former President said Christians in Nigeria and all over the world would miss the exemplary leadership of the church by a Pope who served the poor and the weak, and cared much about migrants and refugees.

"He was a Pope who strove to build a beneficial, complementary relationship between the followers of the world's two greatest religions — Islam and Christianity.

"Just hours before his demise, he made a call for an end to the war in Gaza. I hope Israel and Hamas will heed this call in final respect to the Pope who had the distinction of bringing climate change to the Vatican, and recognising the Palestinian State," said the former President.

The former President wishes for a new leader who will build on the inspiring legacies of Pope Francis.

AT MEETING WITH APC GOVERNORS, EX-PRESIDENT BUHARI CALLS FOR CITIZEN-CENTRIC APPROACH

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has advised the members of the Progressive Governors Forum, PGF, to adopt a citizen-centric approach, saying that leadership presents both a challenge and opportunity, and that balancing the two would significantly advance national progress.

The former President expressed confidence in the progress being made by the governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC and reiterated his call for continued dedication to the nation's progress.

He also said leaders should accord importance to the welfare of the people, not themselves, offering his personal example of leaving office with the same physical assets he had before his presidency.

He thanked the Tinubu administration for renovating his home in Kaduna, explaining that while the building looked very much the same externally, so much improvement was made inside.

He thanked the Governors for the visit, saying that while he had worked with several of them, some others were new to him.

The Chairman of the PGF, Imo state Governor, Hope Uzodinma said that their visit was to greet the former President on the occasion of the Eid-el-Fitr, and “convey our heart-felt expression of gratitude and enduring respect for your immense contributions to Nigeria’s democracy and strengthening our party.

“Many of us recall with pride the principled role you played in the founding of the APC. That legacy continues to shape our party’s identity direction.

The Galadima is the highest title held by the princes of Kano.

Reacting to the news of the death, the former President said, “Kano, indeed the nation, has lost a stabilizer and a moderating voice in a rapidly transforming society.

“The Galadima was the effective link between the past and the present; and an embodiment of institutional memory and traditions who was key to the governance and the administration of the royal palace. Abbas Sunusi is irreplaceable. May his soul rest in peace.”

The former President condoled with the family of the deceased, the Kano Emirate Council, and the government and the people of the State.

ON THE OCCASION OF TINUBU’S BIRTHDAY, EX-PRESIDENT BUHARI SAYS, “I AM PROUD OF OUR ASSOCIATION”

Former President Muhammadu Buhari underscored the bond between him and the President with a call, joining the family and the nation in celebrating the birthday of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu.

In a telephone call on Friday, the former President said he and the members of his family are in prayers for Tinubu for long life, good health and the successful administration of the country by the President, as he marks his birthday.

“When we pray for our leaders, we are praying for ourselves and the nation. We owe this to ourselves and the nation,” Muhammadu Buhari said to President Tinubu.

The former President said his family and himself remain indebted to President Tinubu and other leaders of the party for the invaluable contributions they made towards the formation of the All Progressives Congress, APC, catapulting him to the presidency for two terms, after failed attempts in the past, and in helping to produce another APC administration with the Asiwaju himself at its head.

“No doubt, the annals of the country will not be complete without bringing into mention and without a recognition of the varied and numerous roles of President Tinubu as an entrepreneur, a party stalwart, a staunch activist, party organizer, party builder, a reliable ally and a serial winner of democratic elections. I am truly proud of my association with the Asiwaju.

Without referring to any individual, cast of characters, or issues, principles and ideals currently being discussed by Party leaders at various levels, former President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated what he's said times without number, that he is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) @OfficialAPCNg, and would like to be addressed as a loyal member of the party.

He says he wants to leave no one in doubt that he would never turn his back on the Party that gave him two terms of office, and would do whatever he can to popularise it.

“I am an APC member and I like to be addressed as such. I will try to popularise the party by all means.”

He went on to add that at present, he has nothing but gratitude for the support that the Party gave him before and during his tenure as President, which he considers as the highest honour, and would never ask for anything more.

He further stated that the pains taken by the founding fathers to establish a strong party to protect our constitution, and democracy as a system of government, are worthy sacrifices that should be cherished and nurtured.
