Comptroller Brooke E. Lierman leads the Office of the Comptroller of Maryland. Working towards a more equitable, more resilient, and more prosperous Maryland.
Election integrity and accessibility are central to our democracy, and Maryland has worked hard to ensure that eligible voters can participate safely, securely, and conveniently in our elections. The proposal by USPS creates new barriers for voters while placing costly and unnecessary burdens on state and local election officials.

Happy 4th of July, Maryland!
Today, we celebrate 250 years of independence, resilience, and progress.
We hope that you and your family have a safe and happy holiday weekend.
It was such a great showing at the @fredmdpride parade last week!
Thank you to all who participated in showcasing that a more equitable Maryland makes our state more resilient, more prosperous, and helps every Marylander reach their full potential.
This decision permits the administration to remove people who have spent years living here legally, working, raising families, and contributing to our communities and economy simply because their status was always labeled “temporary.”
Removing thousands of working residents from our communities is not only a moral failure, it’s an economic mistake that will harm small businesses, disrupt industries, and weaken Maryland’s long-term prosperity. Our economy, our culture, and our communities are more resilient because of the very people this ruling now places at risk.

Happy Juneteenth, Maryland!
161 years ago, the last enslaved people in the United States were freed when General Order No. 3 was issued, enforcing the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, we celebrate African American culture and freedom, as we continue our efforts towards equality and justice.
In observance of the holiday, our offices will be closed today, 6/19/2026.
Today, our office launched a quarterly dashboard to track Maryland's economy and fiscal health; employment, housing, revenue, and more, all in one place!

Maryland’s economic ties to the federal government mean that localized cuts are creating big ripples for Maryland residents and businesses.
Our Policy, Public Works, and Investment team released an article with @BrookingsInst examining those ties and how local leaders can prepare for economic shifts.

Yesterday, the Board of Public Works approved the sale of $800 million in tax-exempt General Obligation Bonds. Thanks to strong investor demand, the sale generated more proceeds for Maryland projects than a comparable sale last year, even though fewer bonds were issued.
"Today’s bond sale is a direct reflection of the confidence investors have in Maryland’s fiscal management and long-term stability," said Comptroller Brooke Lierman. "Investors chose Maryland because they trust how we manage this state’s finances, and we will keep earning it every day."
These funds will go directly toward funding projects across Maryland.
