Youth power has come to a full circle today at Jantar Mantar. Their energy & steadfast resilience is infectious. Looking at them one feels India is in safe hands.
The killing of a police officer in the line of duty is a heinous & condemnable act. But detaining over a thousand people and demolishing the homes of families of two alleged militants amounts to collective punishment that has no place in a democracy. If the Government of India itself maintains that militancy has been reduced to near zero it must adopt a more humane and lawful approach towards innocent civilians instead of resorting to tit for tat for an entire community .
“When the smear campaign failed to take hold, the state was forced to reveal its true face. But the deployment of a brutal lathi charge against peaceful marchers is the ultimate admission of failure. The movement is now about much more than examination reform.”
Powerful piece by @MehboobaMufti on how Gen Z Has Deflated the BJP's Narrative Toolkit

The shameful arrest of Rahul Gandhi & Priyanka Gandhi is yet another blot on India’s democracy. A government that fears questions inevitably resorts to silencing its critics. Ironically, Rahul Gandhi’s message to Gen Z “Daro mat” has come full circle. Today’s the government that appears afraid of the Leader of the Opposition. Democracy is being strangulated by brute force.
It’s time to stand up to those in power.
Bulldozing Jauhar University is a grave injustice to thousands of students especially those from economically weaker sections. Yet another vindictive action by the Yogi government against an institution thats provided quality education to all without discrimination of caste, creed or religion.
An educated society asks questions, demands accountability, jobs & justice. Ordinarily the courts should have taken suo motu notice of such actions but that hasn’t happened. It’s now for people to come together & protect an institution that has transformed the lives of thousands.
Flash floods across the Pir Panjal region especially in Rajouri and Surankote have caused widespread devastation. The loss of lives , public infrastructure and private property is deeply alarming. This is a stark reminder of the price we pay for playing with the environment , indiscriminate deforestation, senseless mining and encroachment of riverbeds. The government must ensure immediate relief, rescue and rehabilitation for all those affected.
After careful deliberation PDP has decided to join the Jantar Mantar protest only if the restoration of Article 370 & release of political prisoners are at the heart of the agenda.
Participating in a protest that is confined solely to statehood would amount to putting the last nail in the coffin of our larger constitutional struggle for Article 370 thus legitimising BJP’s illegal August 5, 2019 actions. Our fight is for constitutional rights not one time symbolic gestures.
Reports emerging from Doda about the killing of a civilian, Arif Hussain, who was allegedly stabbed and then shot dead by security forces , followed by an internet shutdown across the district, are deeply disturbing.
The administration must act swiftly to establish the facts and ensure accountability.
J&K must not be allowed to slide towards a situation where allegations of cow smuggling become a pretext for mob violence and the killing of Muslims.
The distressing scenes unfolding at Jantar Mantar, where Sonam Wangchuk is risking his life to safeguard the future of our Gen Z evoke memories of the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters to liberate India from colonial rule. The British may have left but the colonial mindset seems to endure. How else can one explain the indifference of a democratically elected government that remains so callous that it refuses to engage with the youth at Jantar Mantar the very generation that will shape India’s future?
Very disturbing developments taking place in JKCA The JKCA must remain above politics, corruption, and regional bias. Expected better under our own BCCI President, @MithunManhas, but it’s disturbing to see a democratically elected JKCA being undermined without due process, with its President, Javid Khitab, and local clubs allegedly targeted and removed because of their Kashmiri identity.
@BCCI must intervene to stop this interference and ensure cricket is not turned into a Jammu vs Kashmir issue. Let cricket, not identity, decide who represents India. Requesting @BCCI and @JayShah to intervene.
FYI @AmitShah
Thank you @Pawankhera ji for articulating the real issues flowing out of the disempowerment of J&K. NC could at least have spelt out as much without fear of displeasing BJP.
.@MirwaizKashmir Pays Tribute to Martyrs of 13 July 1931; Says Their Sacrifice Remains Etched in Collective Memory
Urges Jantar Mantar Agitation to Go Beyond Statehood, Include Restoration of Articles 370 & 35A, Rights of Political Prisoners, and Peaceful Conflict Resolution
Srinagar, July 10, 2026: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr. Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq, while addressing the congregation at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar, said that 13th July is upon us, a day when we recount the sacrifice of 21 innocent Kashmiris who were shot dead on this day 95 years ago in 1931 by the order of the autocratic rulers of the day for demanding basic rights, and laid the foundation for the long struggle of the people of Jammu and Kashmir for human rights and dignity.
Mirwaiz said that this Jama Masjid bears witness to their shahadat when their funeral prayers, led by Muhajir-e-Millat Mirwaiz Moulana Muhammad Yusuf Shah and attended by tens of thousands of people, were offered here.
He said that since the time of Shaheed-e-Millat Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq, there was a tradition to honour these martyrs by taking out a peaceful procession to the Martyrs’ Graveyard under his leadership, where homage would be paid to them and people would renew their commitment to peacefully struggle for the ideals for which they laid down their lives.
However, Mirwaiz said that, in recent years every attempt to honour the martyrs is thwarted, he is put under house arrest, and even the state holiday to commemorate their martyrdom stands revoked.
But their supreme sacrifice is etched in our collective memory for all times, and the people of Jammu and Kashmir will always honour them as their great martyrs and champions of their rights, he said.
Mirwaiz said that if the authorities allow this year, on 13th July, as per tradition, after Zuhr prayers, they will collectively go to Mazar-e-Shuhada Naqshband Sahib to offer Fatiha and pay tributes to the martyrs, Inshallah.
Mirwaiz also shared that he has received an invitation from Dr. Farooq Sahib, as was made public in the press by them, for the agitation at Jantar Mantar.
He said that after the 2019 unilateral changes brought by the Government of India, the State of Jammu and Kashmir was downgraded to a Union Territory and its constitutional safeguards snatched from the people, leaving them vulnerable and disempowered.
As such, Mirwaiz said that any effort by any political alliance, organisation or individuals working for the restoration of the usurped rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir , if based on sincerity ,is the need of the hour.
He said that besides ,it is the foremost responsibility of the NC government towards the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who gave it a mandate on the clear promise that, once elected, it would revive the pre-2019 status of J&K, including restoration of statehood and Article 370 and 35A.
Mirwaiz said that the agitation cannot be limited to the restoration of statehood, but has to be for all the seized safeguards and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In fact, he said, it should include the rights of our political prisoners and youth languishing in jails for years without trial or continued incarceration despite getting bail, and for people’s longing for lasting peace and life with dignity by conflict resolution.
The funeral is barely over and the US has already started bombing Iran. Even twenty million mourners weeping in the streets for their beloved leader did not deter these criminals. Just a few days ago, I stood before the image of 14-month-old Shaheeda Zahra Mohammadi with a pacifier in her mouth, and it broke my heart to see her tiny coffin beside her grandfather’s. Our hearts go out to Iran. 🇮🇷 #iran #ayatollahkhameini #kashmir
As I depart from Tehran my thoughts are with it’s brave leadership & resilient people in this moment of profound loss and grief. We will always stand with you. Deepest gratitude to the Iranian government for being such gracious & warm hosts. It’s been an honour to be here. @IRIMFA_EN@khamenei_ir@Khamenei_fa@MKhamenei_ir@araghchi@drpezeshkian@Iran_in_India
Some places speak not through their walls but through the faith and sacrifice they witnessed. Visiting Husayniah Jamaran in Tehran the historic home of Ayatollah Imam Khomeini (RA) was a deeply spiritual and humbling experience. It stands as a timeless reminder that unwavering faith in Allah SWT, resilience and devotion to justice can awaken a nation and inspire generations.
An honour for me to be here in Tehran to express my deepest condolences & solidarity on the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei- a revered leader who dared to stand against the tide & fought for the oppressed.
My heartfelt gratitude to all PDP workers especially our Youth Wing for courageously carrying out today’s protest against NC government’s backdoor appointments even in the face of police crackdowns, detentions and house arrests.
Speaking truth to power is never easy but your determination & resilience have shown that no amount of intimidation can silence the voice of justice.
The NC government repeatedly hides behind the excuse that the Police Department is beyond its control whenever questions of accountability arise. Yet, whenever young people peacefully raise their voices for justice be it the rationalisation of reservations or opposing backdoor appointments the same government functions in complete coordination with the police to crush every democratic expression of https://t.co/8DFbiOkRWH, that hypocrisy stood fully exposed as PDP leaders and workers across the Valley were placed under house arrest to prevent a peaceful protest against the outsourcing of government jobs. This selective helplessness exposes their duplicity Their duplicity is further exposed when departments such as Housing, Revenue and Forest readily enlist police assistance to demolish the homes of poor and vulnerable families in the name of anti encroachment drives.
