The Manchester Evening News is backing a bid to raise £42.5m to build a revolutionary new cancer scanning centre at The Christie.
We are calling on people across Greater Manchester and beyond to help fund the new centre at the world-renowned hospital.
It would dramatically increase the number of patients that can be examined and provide access to some of the most advanced imaging technology available.
At the heart of the plans is a state-of-the-art scanner which will give doctors an unprecedented view of tumours, showing not just where they are but how they move inside the body in real time.
The technology could allow medics to target cancer more precisely, reducing damage to healthy tissue and helping patients receive kinder, more targeted treatment.
For the first time, clinicians will also be able to carry out some surgical procedures while a patient is being scanned, allowing treatment decisions to be made instantly and targeting tumours more accurately than ever before.
The appeal by the hospital's own charity comes after demand for scanning soared. Existing facilities were built in 1980 to treat around 20 patients a day - but it now supports more than 60.
This is the Christie Charity most ambitious appeal yet but every donation will help bring the project closer to reality and give thousands of patients access to faster, more advanced scans each year.
