For #HeroesDay26
I REEXAMINED @mkainerugaba book Published 2010
Today's lesson: Doctrine demands absolute obedience
During the liberation war, CHC's orders were verbal to prevent enemy interception. Therefore every combat leader required a photographic memory.
RESPECT!
Today, we honor the heroes whose sacrifice secured our peace & freedom. As we salute the leadership of H.E @KagutaMuseveni and Gen @mkainerugaba , let us renew our commitment to patriotism, unity & national dev’t.
The best tribute to our heroes is to continue the work they began
This is to wish my Brother and Friend @mkainerugaba a very happy Heroes Day and thank him for what he does 24/7 to keep our country safe. I Will never forget when I reached him on phone in Soroti during the insurgence with sounds of bullets flying in the background. Asante.
Fellow Ugandans, on this Heroes Day, we remember the immense sacrifices made by our people in the struggle for freedom. The 9th of June 1981 was chosen to represent the hundreds of thousands who were killed, especially in the Luweero Triangle. After the war, we collected skulls from 32 communal graves as a reminder of the atrocities our people endured.
When we went to the bush, Uganda was facing a profound crisis. The economy had collapsed, governance had broken down, insecurity was rampant, and for 18 years, Ugandans had been denied the opportunity to freely elect their leaders. Our objectives were therefore clear: restore democracy, guarantee security, expand and diversify the economy, and rebuild the country.
I thank the civilian and armed veterans who joined us in this struggle and helped achieve these goals. I also salute the families of those heroes who are no longer with us. The challenge before us now is economic transformation and ensuring that every household joins the money economy.
I am in #Uganda, where the government has mounted a prompt and capable response to the outbreak of #Ebola.
Screening at the borders helped detect cases arriving from neighbouring #DRC, and the country’s surveillance, testing and case management systems are doing steady work. Of the 19 confirmed cases so far, 14 were among people who entered from DRC and five are Ugandan nationals. Sadly, two people from DRC have died, and our thoughts are with their families.
@WHO is supporting Uganda, alongside @AfricaCDC and partners across the region, as the country leads this response.
With continued collaboration, I am confident this outbreak can be brought under control.
