I recently attended a fascinating workshop at the 5th International Symposium on Applied Linguistics #ALR2024, delivered by @natalie_eloise from the University of York and @lpedagogy. The session explored innovative ways to combine AI and vocabulary profiling in language teaching
This weekend, as part of #ALR2024, I'm giving a **free** workshop on #vocabularyprofiling with MultilingProfiler and ChatGPT on behalf of @lpedagogy.
Sunday 3 Nov 10.30-11.30 GMT.

@MLProfiler proved invaluable for analysing GCSE vocabulary in written texts against exam board word lists. It's brilliant for ensuring teaching materials are both comprehensible and curriculum-aligned.
Exciting news! The latest episode of ‘The Kate Languages Podcast’, which I produce, has just been released. In this episode, I join Kate Clifton to discuss how AI can support teachers preparing for the new GCSE in Modern Foreign Languages
Exciting news! The full programme for the AI MFL Teachers' Conference on Friday, 27th September 2024, at City of London Freemen's School is now available. This one-day event will focus on using AI to transform language teaching for the new GCSE. https://t.co/7J8Kmh1Apu
📢New feature: cognate highlighting
Users can now choose to highlight full cognates with English and include them in profiles
This saves time on adding them manually to an extended list
False cognates are also flagged, as these may need some extra attention from teachers
@YenDang101 and Marijana Macis presenting their really interesting and challenging work identifying Spanish-English cognates in academic spoken vocabulary and considering pedagogical implications
Also great to see innovative uses of
@MLProfiler in cognate analysis 😀

Great talk from @rashasoliman04 & colleagues @BAAL2023York on developing vocab profiles for beginner #Arabic. Main challenge is ensuring the range of lang varieties is represented. Freq lists only available for standard Arabic. Word simplicity & commonality are important criteria
