Minnesota parents do not need more excuses from Tim Walz and Amy Klobuchar. They need results.

The latest Kids Count report confirms what too many families already know: Minnesota students are falling further behind. Minnesota’s education ranking has dropped to 21st in the nation. In 2024, 69% of Minnesota fourth graders were not proficient in reading, and 66% of Minnesota eighth graders were not proficient in math.

The numbers speak for themselves. Two-thirds of our kids are not where they need to be in reading or math, and this is not a one-year problem. Since 2019, the share of Minnesota fourth graders not proficient in reading has increased by 7 percentage points, and the share of eighth graders not proficient in math has increased by 10 percentage points.

This is a trend that has plagued Minnesota under Tim Walz, and now Amy Klobuchar needs to answer whether she would continue the same failed agenda.

Governor Walz has had years of record spending, one-party control, and every opportunity to fix this. Instead, Minnesota students lost ground. He spent more, grew the bureaucracy, protected the system, and delivered worse results for kids.

Amy Klobuchar cannot hide behind the United States Senate anymore. If she wants to lead Minnesota, she needs to tell parents what her plan is. Will she break from Tim Walz and empower parents, especially families trapped in failing schools? Will she support Minnesota opting into the federal scholarship tax credit so families have immediate access to private and alternative school options at no cost to the state? Or will this be like every other Klobuchar policy — just more of the same Tim Walz agenda?

The question for Amy Klobuchar is simple: when a school is failing a child, does she stand with the parent or with the bureaucracy?

Minnesota Republicans believe every child deserves a great education no matter their ZIP code, income, or background. We will fight to restore academic excellence, give parents real choices, and put students ahead of the special interests that have failed them.

Minnesota Republican Party Endorses Ron Schutz for Attorney General by Unanimous Consent
DULUTH, MN — The Republican Party of Minnesota today announced the endorsement of Ron Schutz for Minnesota Attorney General by unanimous consent, uniting Republicans behind the candidate best positioned to defeat Keith Ellison and restore integrity, accountability, and public safety to the Attorney General’s Office.

Schutz, a lifelong Minnesotan, husband, father, Army veteran, and nationally recognized trial lawyer, enters the general election as the clear Republican choice to take on Ellison. He has built a career standing up for people, leading in the courtroom, and earning a reputation as one of the most respected attorneys in Minnesota and the country.

“Ron Schutz is exactly the kind of candidate Republicans need in this race, and exactly the kind of Attorney General Minnesota needs right now,” said Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Alex Plechash. “Keith Ellison has failed Minnesotans on crime, fraud, public safety, and accountability. Ron Schutz has the experience, judgment, and toughness to restore confidence in the Attorney General’s Office and finally put Minnesota families, victims, taxpayers, and law enforcement first.”

Recent polling shows Keith Ellison is politically vulnerable. An Alpha News/RMG Research survey found Ellison underwater with Minnesota voters, with only 37% approving of his job performance while 42% disapprove and 20% unsure. The same survey found fraud and corruption ranked as the top issue facing Minnesota, with voters deeply concerned about the state’s failure to stop fraud and hold government officials accountable.

Additional polling shows Ellison’s record is a major liability. When voters learn more about Ellison’s failures on fraud, crime, and sweetheart deals for fraudsters, a strong majority say they are less likely to support him. That creates a clear opening for Republicans to win the Attorney General’s race in 2026.

Ellison’s problems go beyond bad polling. He has been under fire after reports surfaced that he met with individuals later convicted in the Feeding Our Future fraud scandal, one of the largest taxpayer fraud schemes in state history. Audio and reporting have raised serious questions about what Ellison knew, when he knew it, and why he appeared to offer private assurances to people tied to fraud that occurred on his watch.

“Minnesotans deserve answers,” Plechash continued. “Keith Ellison cannot claim to be tough on fraud while meeting with fraudsters, taking political support from people connected to the scandal, and then dismissing legitimate questions as political theater. The Attorney General’s job is to protect taxpayers, not provide political cover for the people who ripped them off.”

Schutz has made fighting crime, cracking down on government fraud, supporting law enforcement, protecting families, and defending the rule of law central to his campaign. His endorsement by unanimous consent reflects strong grassroots unity and growing confidence that Republicans can win this race.

“Keith Ellison is vulnerable because Minnesotans know he has failed,” Plechash said. “Ron Schutz gives voters a clear choice: more politics, excuses, and failure from Keith Ellison, or a serious Attorney General who will fight crime, stop fraud, protect victims, and restore integrity to Minnesota government.
