Updates from the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) on what we are doing to make London even safer. NB - This account is not monitored 24/7.
It was an honour to attend today's deeply moving commemoration marking the first National Day for the Victims and Survivors of Terrorism.
We continue to do all we can to support those impacted by terrorism in London - and stand with our communities against hatred and extremism.
On the first National Day for Victims and Survivors of Terrorism, London remembers all those who have been killed or had their lives altered forever on some of our city’s darkest days.
London stands with you and your loved ones. We will not be divided by hatred and cowardice.
I welcome the Met’s record stop and search find rate.
Done fairly, respectfully and intelligence-led, it can remove dangerous weapons and drugs, disrupt crime and prevent violence.
We’ll keep monitoring its delivery to help build a safer London for everyone. https://t.co/NWv6bgkwaV

Following today’s sentencing, my thoughts are with the loved ones of Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo, Sheryl Wilkins and with all of Levy’s victims. They deserved a system that believed and protected them.
Simon Levy is a dangerous murderer and sexual predator whose offences were reported to the relevant authorities on multiple occasions. Time and time again, opportunities to stop him were missed. I am appalled by his crimes and the failures across multiple agencies that could have prevented him from harming, and ultimately killing, more women.
Multi-agency failings need a multi-agency review and alongside London’s Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime and London’s Victims’ Commissioner, I'll continue to work with the Met Police, the government and partner agencies to ensure that all steps are being taken to understand, learn from and act on lessons learned to ensure this never happens again.
The police are also now working to identify whether Levy is responsible for any similar, unsolved incidents and I urge any other victims of Simon Levy to come forward. Help and support is available to you.
No woman or girl should be, or feel, unsafe in London. As Mayor, I'll continue supporting the Met to identify and bring dangerous predators to justice, while ensuring victims and survivors of sexual violence can access the support they need.

Making London the best place for young people starts with giving every young Londoner the support and opportunities to thrive.
This summer, my @LDN_VRU is joining forces with the Premier League to give young people a safe place to learn new skills.
Some summer signings change football teams. This one is changing young Londoners’ lives.
My @LDN_VRU has teamed up with the Premier League and London’s football clubs to help more young people access sport, mentoring and safe spaces across our city during the school holidays.
No survivor should face the justice system alone.
We've shown in London that free, independent legal advice can make a real difference for survivors of sexual violence. Now that support will reach people right across the country.

Getting away with shoplifting just got a lot harder.
Backed by record City Hall funding, @MetPoliceUK is using new technology to turn the tide on shoplifting crimes.
Businesses can now submit CCTV directly to police, speeding up investigations and helping officers identify offenders, and make more arrests and charges.

Young Londoners need safe spaces to stay active, develop new skills and build lasting friendships.
City Hall is investing £1.5 million to help keep young people safe this summer, with my @LDN_VRU working alongside the @premierleague and football charities.
The evidence is clear: neighbourhood crime is falling across London.
There have been 35,000 fewer offences in the last year thanks to record investment in the Met, more officers on our streets and targeted action to tackle robbery, burglary and vehicle crime.

This week we marked 40 years since the disappearance of Suzy Lamplugh. While #40YearsShouldHaveBeenEnough, her legacy lives on through the work of the Suzy Lamplugh Trust (@live_life_safe) and the pan-London Stalking Support Service, supported by @MOPACLdn.

With @SadiqKhan, we're expanding our work to keep young Londoners safe.
Together with the @PLCommunities Foundation, London United and 11 club charities, we're creating more opportunities to prevent violence before it happens.

I want London to be the best city in the world to grow up in.
My @LDN_VRU has teamed up with the @premierleague and London's football club charities this summer. At Spurs Training Centre, I saw how we’re helping young Londoners build confidence, skills and friendships.
The @MayorofLondon promised free, independent legal advice for victims and survivors of sexual violence in London. I'm proud that @MOPACldn delivered on that commitment. Hundreds have received vital support. The evaluation shows it works, with a national rollout now on the way.
