NIGERIA AT 66: WHAT EXACTLY ARE WE CELEBRATING?
Happy Independence Day, Nigeria.
Today, we celebrate freedom while our children from Askira remain in captivity. Children whose only offence was going to school. Children whose parents have spent the last 4 months living with a pain no parent should ever have to endure.
How can we celebrate independence when our children are still waiting to be rescued? How can we speak of freedom while innocent Nigerians remain in the hands of kidnappers in Niger, Kaduna and other states?
The most painful part is how quickly we are learning to live with the unacceptable. The news cycle moves on, politicians campaign, celebrations continue, and families are left alone with their agony.
If your children are safe, remember those whose children are not. If you can sleep peacefully tonight, remember the parents who cannot. Their suffering must not become normal simply because it is not happening to us.
Our independence means little to families still waiting for their children to come home.
#bringbornochildrenhome. Rescue every Nigerian in captivity. We cannot celebrate freedom and remain silent about those who have been denied theirs.

VIDEO: A man whose wife and daughter were among those taken recounts how the bandits entered the town and what happened during the attack.

His account is difficult to listen to especially knowing that his wife and daughter are now in the hands of their abductors.

This is another painful reminder that for many families in Zamfara, even being inside a town does not always mean being safe.

This is arguably the most consequential speech by any opposition leader in Nigeria since Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

"That the judiciary is part of a process by which a citizen has been turned into a political ping-pong ball by prosecutors using the process of arraignment and bail application to orchestrate perpetual detention raises serious questions. The offences for which El-Rufai has been arraigned are bailable and many others facing similar charges are now Senatorial candidates of various political parties, plotting their way to the red chambers where they will join fellow travellers to make laws for the rest of us. On a day such as this, people who hold the levers of power in Nigeria should understand that as a citizen, El-Rufai is entitled to fair treatment by our courts and state institutions."

I was supporting APC and Tinubu, even doing PR for them, until a family member from my mother's side was kidnapped.

A ransom of ₦100 million was demanded. Updates from his captors were being dropped in our family group chat. We were worried. We were scared for him. But I couldn't bring it to Twitter.
Why? Because on here, I had been saying APC is working and Tinubu is trying his best.

How could I shamelessly come here and say my family member had been kidnapped while I was using my own page to promote them blindly?

We all suffered because we loved and cared about that person.

Our leaders are indirectly telling us to accept that the poor are not worthy of protection. Our lives have been reduced to nothing.

People are being killed and kidnapped daily, yet the President does not even seem to acknowledge the scale of the situation.

Can someone explain to me like a 3years old why NSCDC personnel who allegedly k!lled over 47 Nigerian youths over mining had their faces hidden, but unarmed Nigerians who only wore "Tinubu Must Go" shirts was arrested and had their faces displayed?

How did we get here?
