Today I attended the KC Futures Office event which gathered youth and youth serving organizations. I’m especially proud of this because it was one of my first policy and appropriation actions - reviving the Youth and Young Adult Commissions and creating the KC Futures office two years ago - based on a request from a 16 year old campaign volunteer @YearwoodDJ. Special appreciation for the Health Department and congratulations to Office Manager Bryan Dial who led a collaborative event and centered the voices of our young people.

Youth need our attention. Today they explained issues they face - needing safe places that don’t have a stigma, the impact social media has on their mental health and the stresses of deciding what to do with their future. When we create opportunities for them to express themselves, we can make a difference. Continue to be on the look out for my youth serving actions. I’ve got more in the hopper.

Today, I, alongside an overwhelming majority of my City Council colleagues, sent a letter to Costco leadership regarding the future of the Midtown Costco.

For decades, this location has provided affordable groceries, pharmacy services, household essentials, and good-paying jobs for everyday families across the City.

I am grateful to the Mayor and my Council colleagues for standing together in support of Kansas City residents, workers, and families.

Community well-being and public safety are multifaceted issues. Pet safety is a part of that and I’m proud of the work we’re doing to keep pets happy, healthy, and compliant! More ahead! #momentum

What started as a simple idea has grown into one of my favorite annual traditions. Today, 225 dogs and 30 cats received the vaccines, microchips, and city pet licenses they need to stay compliant, healthy, and protected. That’s more than $350 worth of services per pet provided at no cost to Kansas City families.

This was our third annual Pawsitive Protection event, and every year it continues to grow because our community shows up. For many families, pets are family. I know that firsthand. No one should have to choose between paying their bills and caring for the animals they love.

Healthy pets also mean a safer, healthier community for everyone.

A special thank you to @chewy for donating more than 25 pallets and hundreds of pounds of dog and cat food. We weren’t able to distribute it all today, but don’t worry. We’ll continue getting it into the hands of families through Animal Services over the coming weeks.

Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, donated, and helped make this event possible.

Pawsitive Protection 2026 is a success! And we’re still going until noon! Glad to see hundreds of Kansas Citians out today, rain or shine, to ensure we are keeping our pets happy and healthy! School is out, summer is here, and that means it’s time for the 3rd Annual Tour De Pool!

One of my favorite childhood memories is spending hot summer days at Kansas City’s public pools, and even today, swimming is still a favorite family activity. That’s why I created Tour De Pool: to help more young people experience all that our city has to offer, get outside, stay active, and make lasting memories.

This summer, more than 300 youth from organizations across Kansas City will receive free pool access through partnerships with local youth-serving programs.

And if you see me poolside this summer, be sure to say hello. I might even jump in the water with you!

18th and Vine welcomes pedestrians to meander and mingle! It’s a new approach for us, prioritizing cars less and people more. This dovetails nicely with the 18th street - street car study. Basically, we are open for business in the modern era. But we are doing it our way, in ways that fit the quintessential Kansas City entertainment district.

Make sure you visit and check out our new layout, with mainstay businesses and those we have revived. As we continue the momentum, there will be new opportunities to live, work, and play in the “3rd Districts downtown” so please join us and let’s make memories today for the generation tomorrow.

Today, we celebrated the ribbon cutting of the new Jazz District Parking Garage at 18th & Lydia — one of the first major infrastructure wins I secured just 8 months after taking office.

Parking garages aren’t the most appealing infrastructure, but its a necessary step in preparing the historic 18th & Vine District for the investment, energy, and opportunity already on the horizon. From the reimagining of the Gem Theater to the future $50 million Marriott hotel development and continued growth throughout the corridor, this infrastructure helps lay the foundation for the next chapter of the Jazz District.

18th & Vine is our downtown, it is our cultural heartbeat, our entertainment district, and one of Kansas City’s most historic corridors. New life is being brought back to this district, and I’m proud to help lead that work alongside residents, business owners, developers, and community partners who believe in its future.

The momentum continues in the Prospect corridor. Today, we broke ground on the new Blues Park Outdoor Skating Rink, a community amenity designed for all ages to gather, stay active, and create memories together.

This investment is one part of an intentional effort to bring quality amenities, safe spaces, and opportunities for recreation directly into our neighborhoods. From young people looking for a place to skate with friends to families enjoying time together, this project represents continued momentum and reinvestment into the Eastside.

Projected to open in August 2026 — I look forward to coming back and skating!

Today was a great day for the Prospect Corridor and for Kansas City’s East Side as we welcome a new neighborhood anchor, United Market.

This is our store. This is our community. We have to invest in it, support it, and continue reinvesting in the future we want to see on the East Side. Don’t let negative energy tell our story for us. Our story is resilience, growth, and community pride.

Make sure you stop by, shop local, and support United Market as they begin this new chapter for the neighborhood. Thank you to Anthony and Helen, the whole united market team, city staff, and the community partners and volunteers who made this possible.
