How do science and data drive sustainable fishing? 🌊
At the MSC, we:
🐟 Work with data from fisheries to understand the impacts of climate change
🐟 Partner with marine scientists to ensure sustainability.
🐟 Evolve our Standards with the latest science.
By combining rigorous data collection and scientific best practice, we’re ensuring that fishing practices today protect the oceans of tomorrow. 🌍
Our new ‘Super Seafood: Sustaining people and planet’ report – with foreword from @HenryDimbleby – calls for more support to progress #sustainablefishing, if governments are to deliver positive health outcomes through increased fish consumption.

Wild-caught seafood is a nutritious, sustainable source of protein, yet only 1 in 5 Brits eats the recommended 2 portions of fish per week. 🐟
Our new report features a foreword by healthy food advocate @HenryDimbleby, who says: "If UK seafood consumption were to double, as recommended, we would need to ensure fishing is managed sustainably and restore stocks to healthy levels." 💬

What impact does #climatechange have on fishing? 🐟
Today is #WorldFisheriesDay and as #COP29 is underway, marine heatwaves are up more than 50% in 30 years and our oceans have absorbed 93% of excess heat since the 1970s. 🌊
As the world comes together to discuss climate change we cannot forget the impact it has on fish stocks and biodiversity, the impact it has on the livelihoods of fishers like these who are working hard at sea, to take care of our Ocean and help ensure we have healthy fish stocks for the future, and ultimately, the seafood we love. 🎣
When you choose seafood with the blue MSC ecolabel, you’re supporting a more vibrant Ocean for us all to enjoy for generations to come. 💙
