At this point it's clear that #Monero's Detective Mining protection doesn't work against #SelfishMining.

The next bet is on Checkpointing and #Qubic is already working on a counter-measure. Its core idea is releasing secretly mined blocks in a way that the both branches are of the same length -- and then releasing the last blocks when the public branch comes close to the private one. Network latency is on #Qubic's side here.

I saw several PoW apologets in #Monero threatening to dump their coins on Monero's Proof-of-Stake fork if migration to PoS happens. This threat is pretty serious and may indeed influence community's decision making them stick to PoW (or a hybrid variant). But here is a hypothetical solution:

Publish a proposal to the #Qubic quorum asking to attack the PoW fork after the PoS one is launched. It's unknown if the proposal will be accepted, but even possibility that it may be accepted is enough to protect against PoW maxis threats.

I heard #Monero was considering to add a proof-of-stake element used for checkpointing while still keeping proof-of-work to mine new coins. At first glance this was a good solution but then I noticed that it would open a big can of worms.

Ask yourself what may go wrong if an adversary has means to conduct an eclipse attack (e.g. by controlling a botnet or owning many IP addresses and a checkpointing stake running on a node which cannot accept connections from the outside).

Things become worse if PoS has stake slashing.

By trying to keep PoW you construct a too complex mechanism with many potential attack vectors.
