This weekend marks 28yrs since Magic launched at GenCon 1993
Over that weekend, WotC held their first public MTG tournament!
This is a rare picture of that tournament's Final between GenCon attendees Rick Townsend & Alex Parrish. There is a play-by-play of their final game too.
Was at @Buy_Skulls in Toronto, Ontario this week. It’s a fascinating place & got an amazing tour by the resident Magician Jim (illusionist, not card game player)
One of my fav things was that there was the mtg card “Meteorite” next to a bunch of purchasable actual meteorites!
While I don't really post on here much anymore, I still mine the past for Magic history.
In doing so, I recently had the pleasure of podcasting with Wizards' first in-house lawyer—Brian Lewis.
We chat about the reserved list origins, counterfeiting, the TCG patent & much more:
We've "lawyered up"
Which means we finally got to speak to the first laywer of Magic, WotC & TCGs in general—Brian Lewis
Come hear how the law shaped the early MTG—everything from gambling, counterfeiting & even satanism:

A lot of old WOTC articles have been erased last year. Not even available with Wayback machine. They were still accessible last summer. The MTG history have been flushed out of the Internet

The first wave of Magic: The Gathering's FALLEN EMPIRES began hitting US retailers 28 years ago today!
While the expansion itself is often remembered as overprinted; it innovated gameplay with the first sac lands, consistent creature types & heavy token/counter-based effects.
@FRM16 perhaps! thanks for the encourgement.
another partner on the podcast network is experimenting with a blog platform. We'll see what come of that, hopefully we can pull it together 🤞

Released 14 years ago today, Jace & Chandra clashed in the first Planeswalker vs Planeswalker Duel Deck product!
Duel Decks featuring a Planeswalker battle would go on to be integral during the lifespan of the Duel Deck series releasing one each year until 2016 (9 in total).
@FDOrsettoM ah, the point I’m trying to make here is the name of the principle not the principle itself.
However, I think the most logical conclusion now is William of Ockham is an Earthling planeswalker
