Be intentional and take charge "Hey, I'm interested in you but my problem is I don't know you that well. How about we have an opportunity where it's just you and me talking and getting to know each other. Dress up in your fav dress, I'm taking you out tonight".
This generation glamorises isolation a lot. You're not an island. You need other people, whether you like it or not. It could be family, friends or a partner, but it's important to spend time with them in as much as it's important to be comfortable with being alone. Find balance.
Iβve been reading a lot about Simon Nkoli of late. His coming out as gay during his imprisonment as part of the Delmas 22 in the 80s helped shift the ANC & broader liberation movementβs stance on discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. By the 90s, he & others lobbied directly for its constitutional protection, and it was. We do not honour him enough for the intersectionality of his anti-Apartheid work, and the need for the protection of human rights to continue to be thus.
