OT) In my opinion, the way we get better is in the hands of the coaches. The transition period for more whistles would certainly be rough. Some argue you cannot foul everyone out. Yes you can. Players will stop fouling and coaches will stop teaching it.
5) In almost every post game press conference, a coach will say, “Well, tonight’s game was really physical”. Guess what? Every game is way too physical! Next time you watch a game, do not watch the ball, just watch the contact off the ball.
4) Now one day of practice between games might qualify as a quick turnaround. But guess what, every weekend in the NCAAT is one day between games. If your league does not have that in your conference schedule, I would recommend having it in your non con.
3) If you play on a Saturday and then on a Tuesday, a lot of coaches, most coaches, will use the phrase, “We have a quick turnaround”. I am sorry but 2 days of practice between games is not a quick turnaround.
2) But no you do not. You have to score. First and foremost. Make shots. It has long been my belief that more big games have been lost because you could not score vs you could not defend.
1) Ask any coach what they have to do to win this or that game and 95% will answer the same……we have to defend and rebound. Defend and rebound. I understand why they say it. Most players have the furthest to go on that end of the floor.
#hoopjunkies Today, the Wednesday 5 takes a look at some things college basketball coaches say, all the time, that we disagree with. See if you concur? Follow along.
OT) Nuggets. Dusty May to the NBA. Congress is still trying to pass the Protect College Sports Act. Michael Malone goes to UNC. Will any of these be successful? What do you think?
5) The math with rev share and NIL was never going to work for college hoops and that has proven to be the case. However, until we get transparency about the dollars each school has, how can we evaluate coaches in their respective conferences?
4) This roster uncertainty makes looking ahead almost impossible as it relates to trying to evaluate how a team might do this season. Schedules are also leaking out it seems one game at a time. Love that I am seeing a lot of mids playing home and homes.
3) Eligibility lawsuits continue with the 5 in 5 rule being challenged. The NCAA doubled down on their position. Not sure how this plays out but my sense is we will see a majority of those seeking relief on the court come November.
2) Furthermore, could not be happier that the 2nd “Dayton” ended up being Wichita. Very similar in a lot of positive ways. Basketball savvy fan base who will wrap their arms around the event. The Roundhouse has always been in my top 10 venues to do games.
1) I was in the majority who supported NCAAT expansion for reasons given the last couple of years. Will it be a slam dunk success….who knows? Will it ruin March Madness? Absolutely no chance. Love that all 16 seeds will have a better shot at winning.

The story of the youngest roster in college baseball & a crazy old basketball lifer with his last dance on a diamond. It's a fun, gritty look at a most improbable marriage of team & coach. Foreword by @LanceMcAlister
2OT) Every coach at some point in time in their post game press conference will say these words, “Well, it was a very physical game.” A safe bet. I just think it is time to take a much more aggressive stance to fix this.
