This morning, I rose in the Legislature to share the story of @mabelsfables and to demand protection for small businesses in our community from the pressures of development. #tostpauls

@EricRWalters @mabelsfables The fact that no business protections exist has alway flumoxed me. So many established businesses are forced to close and new ones can't get off the ground.

[Rachel Seigel @rachelnseigel]

@EricRWalters @mabelsfables I worked at Mabels for 2 years and have seen what the store means to so many people. I sincerely hope neighbourhood outcry can save it.

[Eric Walters @EricRWalters]

SO right.Existing legislation protects renters in but not businesses. Massive rent hikes are a way of forcing tenants to leave to cluster blocks to convert to condos. @mabelsfables is an institution and so is Eleanor - one of THE most knowledgeable people in the business.
