Cotton Avenue, as seen on this 1910 postcard!

This street was a major hub for African-American businesses like barbershops, lawyers' offices, shoemakers, and dentist. As the only street that runs diagonally through Macon's Downtown, it was how cotton was easily transported to the river.

Some of the buildings in the postcard are still there today! Go check out some great shops and some delicious food spots. Follow Cotton Avenue, just a block further from this view today, and you'll see the Otis Redding statue... "sitting on the dock" of his hometown!
