On second thought, the second inning is an even better representation. Leadoff walk, never advances, and is erased on an inning-ending double play, then a homer on a meatball to open the bottom half of the inning.
Should the rest of the season play out the way that seems most likely, that first inning will stand as a pretty perfect encapsulation of the 2026 Padres.

A small raft of moves across the org, including:
Monster RHP Cam Nohos up to Lake Elsinore
Late signee Carlos Medina up to Fort Wayne
RHP Matthew Watson up to San Antonio
26-year-old RHP Julio Dilone (originally in the Mariners org in 2021) comes stateside to ACL.
The Padres have shuffled Luis Germán back to Fort Wayne. The righty has premium stuff, but had always struggled with command. They sent him out to the ACL to regroup last month and he dialed it in nicely. Org is hoping for a turn-around similar to Bernard Jose's.

@_v_jorge @baseballnerd__ Salas, who is 4 months older than Harvey, is well above average offensively in the Texas League while playing in a park that wildly supresses LHH power. He has some of the best strike zone control stats anywhere in the minors and is already one of the best receivers in the game.

After two years at one of the top JuCo programs in the country, Mac (youngest son of Jamie) Moyer posted a .457 OBP as the Huskers' starting CF. He's the Padres' ninth announced UDFA.
@Chrigrzun I'm not sure if anyone was losing "their minds over shortening the draft." The MLB draft is counterintuitive: most players drafted past the 10th round, and many who will sign as UDFAs, will get the max of $150k, which might be more than 10x what guys in 8-10 could get. (1-2).

Interesting UDFA signing for the San Diego Padres. Logan Satter only started pitching this year, but already shows serious feel for spin. Going to be an intriguing development project for the org.

The Padres talk about physical outlier profiles. UDFA Josh Skowronski definitely fits the bill. The 6'5", 220 pound outfielder is a pretty freakish athlete.
He'll probably need to become slightly less passive as he moves to the professional ranks, but he'll be a fun one to watch.

@Chrigrzun If you're talking about the move from 30 to 20 rounds, that was never an assertion anyone with even a basic understanding of the process made.
If you're talking about the steaming pile of shit in MLB's proposal for the next CBA, people are correctly saying it's awful.
