Answer: His Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary Sahib was holding meeting with BJP top leadership in New Delhi on the same day.
So Omar Sahib was actually balancing the two events.

Mirwaiz has rightly sounded the alarm. Kashmir’s environment is being sacrificed at the altar of so-called development.
Mountains blasted, forests cleared, wetlands encroached upon, waterways obstructed and fragile zones opened for construction,yet accountability remains missing.
Nepal should not be treated as a distant tragedy. It is a warning to those governing Kashmir: reckless planning today can become a catastrophe tomorrow.
Kashmir needs development, but not development that destroys Kashmir. Governance must protect lives, not serve vested interests.

Unlike Kashmir, Ladakhi leaders and people did not fool one another on Article 370.
Their focus was practical, and they may soon get Article 371 protection.
Only beyond 370 is achievable reality; the rest is Achievable-Comedy.

On 5 August 2019, Ladakh was carved out as a Union Territory without a legislature without elected MLAs, a CM or an Assembly. Yet, with barely 3 lakh people and very little political space, its leadership has secured 16 rounds of dialogue with the GoI and pushed for restoration of a legislature, constitutional safeguards under Article 371, new districts, a new division, job security and even a High Court.

That is a significant political effort and a step towards reclaiming what was lost.
Compare this with J&K, which has a 90-member Assembly, an elected government, a CM and a full Cabinet, yet appears politically paralysed.

For seven decades, J&K has watched its constitutional position erode through successive amendments and changes. We never seriously reclaimed, as a state, what was lost. Knowing this history, the first priority after elections should have been political outreach to center on the larger question of restoring constitutional rights and guarantees not merely the Rules of Business.

And this should never have been a one-party exercise. The CM should have personally initiated an all-party political committee and taken a joint J&K delegation to Delhi. Instead, the approach often appeared centred on individual and party outreach.

The erosion may have begun under the BJP, but the elected government will also be judged on what it did or failed to do — to reverse its normalisation.

Worse, political differences were allowed to become personal. Its own MP was pushed aside after raising uncomfortable questions, while Aga Ruhullah was isolated despite repeatedly reminding the government of its own manifesto commitments.

The most unfortunate moment was the refusal to seriously engage with former CM Mehbooba Mufti’s proposal for a joint delegation to the PM and HM to revive the political process, along the lines of the dialogue being pursued for Ladakh.

This is bigger than elections or one party winning and another losing. It is about whether J&K’s political class can rise above ego, arrogance and partisan interests when the stakes are generational.

J&K is at the edge. Perhaps this failure is not deliberate. But its consequences will be real and our future generations will have to live with them.
