Today was a milestone for Oklahoma City and for MAPS 4. Today, we officially opened Diversion Hub!
Diversion Hub is a $19 million project that works in partnership with philanthropy, nonprofits and agencies to provide a “hub” of services for people involved with the criminal justice system, with the goal of “diversion” away from jail or prison.
MAPS is a quality-of-life initiative and Diversion Hub is a life-changing project. This will be a national model, and it’s all thanks to the people of Oklahoma City. Also, a special thanks to Sue Ann Arnall for leading the efforts to fund Diversion Hub’s operations.
Congrats and thanks to all who made today possible! #1OKC
For the second day in a row, we cut the ribbon on a MAPS 4 project, and today it’s our new public art piece - “Kicks 66”!
“Kicks 66” by Cameron Eagle and adjacent to the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum is part of the beautification project in MAPS 4.
We directed Cameron to honor OKC’s tie to Route 66 (which celebrates its centennial this year) and specifically our lyric in the iconic song. As Bobby Troup originally wrote - and Nat King Cole, the Rolling Stones and countless others popularized - “Oklahoma City looks might pretty.”
Thanks to the voters, taxpayers and everyone who made this possible, and especially our partners at the Cowboy, who significantly supported the site preparation. Go check out this new Route 66 and OKC landmark - day and night!
The towering “Kicks 66” sculpture of a 35-foot-tall red cowboy boot is installed and ready to greet Route 66 enthusiasts.
The iconic sculpture, located atthe @ncwhm was created by local artist Cameron Eagle.
People can visit “Kicks 66” from 8 a.m. – 10 p.m. year-round.
Oklahoma City leaders cut the ribbon today on the $19-million MAPS 4 Diversion Hub. Located on Linwood Boulevard between N. Western Avenue and N. Klein Avenue, the facility will provide comprehensive support services to people and families impacted by the criminal legal system.
Vote for the name of OKC’s biggest pup by June 30! Let us know what you think we should call this dog sculpture by artist Olga Ziemska. The sculpture will welcome visitors to the MAPS 4 OKC Louisa McCune Animal Welfare Center, opening later this year.
