Last week, The Action Foundation hosted a ceremony to honor members of the Caregiver Awareness Resource and Empowerment (CARE) Groups who actively engaged in Cohort 3 of our Street Business School (SBS) Training. The comprehensive SBS training has empowered caregivers of children with disabilities to uplift themselves from poverty by enhancing their income through practical skills and knowledge , thereby creating a beneficial ripple effect within their families and communities.

The caregivers were provided with seed capital to sustain and expand their businesses.

Maria Omare, our Founder and Executive Director at The Action Foundation, together with Juliet Muema, our Young Women and Girls Empowerment Program Officer, recently had the honour of being the featured speakers at the 2024 Justice for Women Lecture Series at the University of Maine.

This event focused on advancing the rights and dignity of women and girls with disabilities. Centred on the theme: “Empowering Women and Girls with Disabilities; Fighting Discrimination, and Promoting Inclusion”, the discussion delved into the unique challenges that young women and girls with disabilities face in their daily lives, from systemic discrimination to societal barriers that hinder their full participation in education, employment, and community life.
