#55 Yes yes yes!! Two stories unfold in parallel, separated by centuries yet united by a shared centre—love. A captivating introduction to Sufism and the profound bond between Rumi and Shams Tabriz. I think I will always have a soft spot for this book 💫
#54 Another book which I picked up due to the hype but, the plot just didn’t come together for me. 3 ⭐️s from me as I will not be picking up the sequel :(
Eighty one years ago today, this man led 299 Indian soldiers along the beach at Dunkirk. They were taken off in the middle of the night from the East Mole, and spent the next 3½ years in Britain. His name?
Brilliant double episode with guest @KimGhattas who drew enlightening links between the Iranian Revolution, the attack on the Grand Mosque of Mecca and the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan.
Time to add The Black Wave onto my reading list!
Black Wave: From the Iranian Revolution to the Rise of the Mujahedin & Hezbollah
Listen to our @EmpirePodUK double bill as the remarkable @KimGhattas talks to us about the growing rivalry between Revolutionary Shia Iran & the proselytising Sunni Islamists of Saudi Arabia...

I made it right to the front of the march today! Really moving listening to the Palestinian Ambassador @hzomlot and British Palestinian surgeon @GhassanAbuSitt1. The strength these men have shown has been inspiring. ‘Our spirits will not be broken’.

Watching the ICJ hearing has been quite profound. The South African legal team has diligently put forward evidence after evidence of genocidal intent on an international stage.
Thus, should Israel argue it acted in Self-defence, S.A. already showed it has no application. It is irrelevant. o Nothing can ever justify genocide. No exceptions can be made in provisional measures that would allow Israel to violate Genocide Convention.
@hannahlizteach I did exactly the same thing this time last year and it was the best decision! Life’s too short to be stuck somewhere you’re unhappy. Wishing you all the best 🥳
“They rape [women] to break the spirits of men,” Omonia Kheir, a Sudanese woman speaking to Al Jazeera.
Sexual assault being weaponised and women facing the traumatic brunt of it. Outrageous in 2023 women around the globe are suffering like this.
The women of Sudan including myself are searching/learning about ways to prevent pregnancy due to the raping campaign launched by the RSF militia (the international community still hasn’t classified them as a terrorist militia) do y’all realize how insane this is?
@pjneedham40 I don’t blame you as we’ve seen too many die simply for doing their jobs. It’s amazing that Lama is witnessing journalists being targeted yet, still shows bravery by pursing the career. The courage from a 9 year old is heartwarming🥹
Highly recommend watching Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland. This powerful docuseries interviews people from all sides affected by The Troubles. You will also see big parallels with Gaza today too.
