The Marine Biodiversity Observation Network (MBON) is the marine thematic network under the GEO BON. We are a community of practice to observe life in the sea.
π We're excited to share that the MBON website has a fresh new look!
It's now easier than ever to explore who we are, what we do, and how we're working to advance collaboration across the MBON community.
Take a look and let us know what you think! π https://t.co/cIkxkuVUA4
With threats including #deforestation and pollution, 50% of the world's mangrove ecosystems are at risk of collapse.
An assessment from IUCN Red List of Ecosystems shows nearly 20% of the assessed #mangroves are classed as either Endangered or Critically Endangered.

The #StarfishBarometer2026 is out now and available to read in the State of the Planet journal, and the diagnosis is clear: ocean degradation is continuing and accelerating, while responses remain insufficient.
Key findings cover:
π΅ A deteriorating ocean, with early signs of acceleration
π΅ Human pressures structurally unchanged
π΅ Rising human and economic costs
π΅ Real but insufficient progress
π΅ Shrinking observation systems
