Congratulations to Minister for Long-Term Care @NatKusendova on her expanded role as Minister of Francophone Affairs.
We have appreciated your significant support for culturally appropriate care, and know this perspective will continue to serve Ontarians well in your expanded ministerial role.
This appointment reflects what long-term care knows: culture is foundational to dignity and belonging. Language, tradition, and identity are core to how people age well.
We wish you every success in your expanded role.

Rural #LTC homes like Broadview Nursing Home in Smiths Falls are vital to their communities. Replacing an older home with an up-to-date building has made it possible for seniors who need care to stay close to people and places they love – and for nearly 170 people to continue to have jobs in the community.
Construction in rural communities also brings major economic benefits. Building Broadview Nursing Home contributed $69 million to GDP and $48.2 million in labour income.

#ICYMI: We broke ground on the future long-term care home at North York General Hospital; a modern space with 528 homes that will provide older adults with high-quality care close to home while creating more than 800 good-paying jobs in the community.
LTC Community Engagement Day shows what happens when we open our doors and our hearts; we build connections that last.
What began through the leadership of @OLTCAnews members has quickly become one of the sector’s most meaningful provincewide moments.
Homes across Ontario have transformed #LTCEngage into something uniquely their own from Walks to Wellness, live music, shared meals with community leaders, volunteer recognition and community celebrations of decades of care and connection.
At the centre of every event is the same message.
LTC homes are vital parts of our communities.
This year, the whole sector is joining in. Even more homes, families, residents, elected officials and local partners taking part in #LTCEngage2026.
Join us September 18, 2026.
We can’t wait to see what this year brings.

More than 200 of Ontario’s long-term care homes are located in rural communities. Many are older homes that need to be rebuilt so that rural seniors can continue to age in place in their home communities.
Dundas Manor in Winchester is one project already well underway. Rebuilding this much-needed home will add more spaces for seniors who need the care and support that long-term care provides.
Construction of this new home is contributing $69 million to GDP and $48 million in labour income. Once complete, the redeveloped Dundas Manor will be part of a campus of care, helping to integrate the LTC home into the broader health care system and ensuring residents can conveniently connect to the care they need.

Two young 🇨🇦 men with the last name Fox went to high school 24kms apart just outside of Vancouver, BC in the mid 1970s. Both young men would inspire the world and combine to fundraise over $3 billion for Cancer and Parkinson’s research. Two amazing Canadians, Terry Fox and Michael J Fox. 🇨🇦❤️
Dementia is one of the fastest-growing health, economic, and care system challenges facing aging societies.
New findings from @AlzDisInt's From Plan to Impact 2026 report, released at the 79th World Health Assembly, project the global cost of dementia will rise from US$1.3 trillion in 2019 to US$2.8 trillion by 2030.
The findings also show that only 47 WHO Member States currently have national dementia plans in place, representing just 24% of countries that committed to developing one; many existing plans continue to face funding and implementation challenges.
Canada has made important progress through its National Dementia Strategy, but continued action and long-term commitment remain critical as countries work toward the WHO Global Action Plan targets through 2031.
Having a strategy is only the first step. Sustained leadership, investment, and system readiness are essential to ensure meaningful impact for people living with dementia. Without implementation and sustained funding, plans risk falling short of the people who need them most.
These findings reinforce the importance of our ongoing advocacy and policy work across Canada to strengthen dementia strategy implementation, support earlier diagnosis, improve system readiness, and advance sustained, long-term investment in dementia care and support.

What started as one intentional idea has become a growing movement across Ontario.
When @OLTCAnews launched the first LTC Community Engagement Day, the goal was simple: open our doors, strengthen relationships and help communities better understand life inside LTC homes.
In just two years, participation has grown from a small group of homes into a provincewide movement that brings together the whole long-term care sector from residents, families, staff, local leaders to neighbours. All of us around one shared purpose: building stronger connections to long-term care.
Last year, nearly 200 LTC homes participated. Homes welcomed MPPs, MPs, mayors, students, volunteers and community partners into spaces filled with storytelling, music, shared meals and meaningful conversations.
Save the date to help us make this year even bigger. Join us September 18, 2026.

Excellent discussion today at the #CAPPA2026 Conference at @uOttawa with @MichaelWernick and Kelly Ellis on the future of public service leadership, evidence-based policy, AI adoption, operational excellence, and public trust. As governments adapt to rapid technological and economic change, strong, professional, and non-partisan public institutions remain more important than ever. Thank you to moderator Brooke Jeffrey of @Concordia for leading such a thoughtful conversation.
“I have a suite where the sunshine pours in every day, and I love that,” said Ivan. “I didn’t know what to expect when I first got here, but I love it here. It’s starting to feel like home.”
Ivan lives in long-term care because he needs 24/7 nursing care. At @Jarlette Stayner Care Centre in Stayner, Ont., he is not only receiving care but also building a life around familiar things, daily routines, and people who know him.
