For Somalilanders, as a Muslim society, it is our belief to visit Mecca once in a lifetime. Similarly, I would advise every Somalilander to visit these two historic sites for our country:
1. The Hargeisa Monument (Taalada): Dedicated to Barre Xaji Cilmi, the first student whose death in 1982 sparked the Somaliland liberation struggle.
2. Connaught Hall in London: The place where a few Somalilanders founded the SNM in 1981 to liberate their country. Without them, #Somaliland might not exist today. @AbdisalamYassi1
Wonderful that £2 million has been announced to repair and refurbish Sheffield College as part of the Government's plan to invest £1.7 billion in colleges. Investment in our educational institutions is paramount to providing secure, safe and supportive learning environments and I'm really pleased Sheffield has been recognised
To those who have served in our Armed Forces, and to those who continue to do so, as a nation today we give our thanks, we pay our respects and we strive to serve you as you have served us.

Urgent action is needed to protect drivers from daylight robbery — private operators must be held accountable and operate within the rules or face full force of law.
We’re cracking down on private car park operators in Sheffield. If they don’t follow the rules then we will fine and shut them down.
And the Labour Government is bringing in tough new standards to clean up the industry and protect drivers https://t.co/p2rgSiVxzQ
Small businesses are the beating heart of our high streets, our communities, and our economy.
When I said we’d back them all the way, I meant it.
Promise made. Promise delivered.
Surges in demand for mental health services are being reported nationwide, so community-based mental health services are more important than ever.
I went to Everyturn Mental Health’s drop in to hear about their work in crisis support, rehabilitation and community care, and how they’re partnering with the NHS for better mental health across the country.
Sheffield Energy Hub launched on Cambridge Street earlier this week, to offer you information on generating community energy, bringing down your energy bills and making our city more energy efficient and sustainable.
A partnership of charities and community organisations, the Council and commercial partners, they’ll be on hand to offer you support.
Some inspiring contributions from the ‘Day One’ Art Exhibition too: a collaboration of the SCC Youth Voice and Influence Service and young people across the city, which demonstrates what climate change means to them.
History shows that any country with these five pillars is likely to succeed. Does your country have all of them?
1. Peace
2. A free society and democracy
3. A free market economy
4. A free and strong judiciary system
5. National unity and good governance
#Somaliland has all of them — and that’s why we are succeeding, even without international recognition.
I just introduced the Republic of Somaliland Independence Act to formally recognize Somaliland as an independent nation. For more than three decades, Somaliland demonstrated the kind of governance, stability, and cooperation that America should support. Foreign adversaries are on the march in Africa and around the globe, and it’s in our national interest to strengthen relationships with partners who share our values and contribute to our security – whenever and wherever prudent."

Future generations will look back on this moment as a turning point and ask how world leaders, faced with a choice between complicity and courage, enabled genocide.
As the Palestinian Ambassador to the UK, I call on the British government to end this vicious path, right its historic wrongs and officially recognise the State of Palestine.

The core of the problem is not the actions of a few extremists, but a longstanding, deeply entrenched Israeli doctrine aimed at displacing and replacing the Palestinian people in their own homeland.
That is why we have called on the UK to hold the entire ecosystem accountable: to sanction the Israeli government, impose a full arms embargo and hold those complicit in war crimes accountable. These actions must go hand in hand with an immediate recognition of the state of Palestine; one cannot be a substitute for the other.

Uriah Rennie, the first Black referee in the Premier League, he broke barriers in football.
His passing is a great loss not just for sport but for the communities he served and uplifted.
His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
