Space Junk is probably the most fun we’ve ever had making a record. It turned us back into teenagers, or kids in our bedrooms when we got our first instruments, and dreamed about doing what we’re doing tonight. We’ve had 10 years to think about this album, it’s been in the bag for like 10 years. We thought the world needed an instrumental record, and we had fun making it. — Marty

Hold it. Hold it. Hold it. I just watched Emmylou Harris and the Hot Band on YouTube from a 1977 broadcast of a show called Old Grey Whistle Test. I encourage you to check it out. It will serve as a reminder of once great, always great. Emmylou, Rodney Crowell, Hank Devito, Glen D. Hardin, Emory Gordy Jr, John Ware and Albert Lee were known as Emmylou Harris and the Hot Band. They were second to none and not to be followed. Leading the charge was the Sweetheart of the Rodeo, the coolest cosmic cowgirl in the world and one of the most fearless musical citizens ever to walk planet earth.
I call her Queenie. She’s my pal. We first met in 1973 at a concert at Michigan State University. Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris, Lester Flatt and The Nashville Grass, along with the Eagles, played a once in a lifetime, never to be forgotten show that still echoes on in my heart.
When it comes to music, Emmylou has always inspired and encouraged me to keep digging, keep moving, keep writing — looking for that next song or the next thing. When I get to where I’m going, Queenie’s already been there and gone. She’s like the wind. Invisible although she’s everywhere. Her singing and her songs are for the ages. Emmylou has touched all of our lives. So, here’s to Queenie and her Hot Band. Some of the greatest of all time —
With love,
Marty
P.S. My definition of AI can be found in one of Emmylou’s classic songs on the Old Grey Whistle Test show. Listen to Albert Lee’s guitar solo on Luxury Liner. AI equals Albert Intelligence. Albert is truly a gladiator of Twang. A bonified guitar genius. Go Albert Go!!!
My guitars all have an interesting story... they're still working guitars. I play every single guitar I have. They have to earn their keep. - Marty

When we first started our band, the way we learned to sing harmonies together was singing old gospel songs. Here’s “Just A Little Talk With Jesus” as we heard it done by Bill Monroe and The Blue Grass Boys.
Had a great Mother’s Day with my Momma! As far as I’m concerned every day is Mother’s Day.
Nothing’s changed since last year or the year before….92 trips around the sun and Hilda Stuart is truly one of the coolest people on planet earth. Momma is pure unconditional love.
It’s an honor to be her son.
