Football fans across the world have called for Gianni Infantino to resign as Fifa president.
A petition, launched by Football Supporters Europe but backed by groups in all six Fifa confederations, calls the World Cup sell-off plan a "betrayal" @TimesSport https://t.co/oNhD7yUlmX
Latest: Laura McAllister - Wales's UEFA vice-president, says Kevin Lamour's sacking by FIFA is "deeply troubling".
Statement from @LauraMcAllister :
"I know Kevin Lamour to be an honourable and exemplary sports leader who was a trusted colleague of mine when I was first elected to UEFA Ex Co.
Kevin is not only a deeply principled leader who cares passionately for football, but a brave advocate for the values that should underpin all we do as custodians of our game. During the shabby events of the past weeks, he showed himself to be a courageous advocate for the most important stakeholders in football.
Having worked with Kevin, I know that his leadership always operates on principles of respect, independence, transparency and sound governance.
Kevin's sacking seriously weakens FIFA's administration, whilst undermining this unique opportunity to shift the culture at FIFA and to reset the organisation on sporting values, not simply commercial and financial ones. FIFA is not the President, it is the whole football family.
As I have said repeatedly, world football needs strong, principled, independent leaders who are prepared to speak up, challenge when necessary, and stand firmly by their values and those of the global game.
Instead, the loss of a leader of Kevin’s calibre sends a deeply troubling message to all of us seeking change."
NEW: Kevin Lamour, FIFA's chief operating officer who went public with criticism of Infantino's World Cup sell-off plan, has been fired.
FIFA council members have been told that "the decision was made with careful consideration and with great respect for Kevin".
As Lamour said in his statement a couple of weeks ago, at least he can sleep at night now.
Maybe at the moment we should all (me included) take a break from any discussion of Cambridge's policies, and reflect on the tragic human costs -- and remember with compassion the person who paid a dreadful price.
Intriguing details of Infantino's private jet flight to visit the Pope (paid for by Russian oligarch) - he claimed it was a private visit but the trip was organised by FIFA office. https://t.co/PjWlL6Adig
This is from the Olympique Lyonnais vs Sparta Prague match (second leg of the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round), played on tonight (11 August 2026) at the Groupama Stadium in Lyon.
The banner was displayed by the Bad Gones, Lyon’s main ultras group in the Virage Nord. Infantino Assasino, FIFA Madia means the Swiss-Italian conman killing football.
U.S. Soccer has finally puts its foot down on the Gianni Infantino FIFA scandal, calling for ‘meaningful change.’
I also hear that right now, Mexico is alone within Concacaf in backing Infantino:
