50 years after the Sallins Train Robbery case, Osgur Breatnach has finally been granted a miscarriage of justice certificate. This is a significant acknowledgment that these convictions were fabricated by the Garda Heavy Gang.

Chaos reigns in Irish courts because the Justice minister won’t engage with stakeholders on Criminal Legal Aid changes. Thousands of cases are adjourned.
Yet, gov won’t even allow a Dáil debate on issue!
The Oir Justice Committee will instead seek to hold a hearing next Tuesday.

Poignant moment in the Dáil this evening as TDs recognise the campaigning of David French who has championed the passage of Valerie’s Law, in memory of his sister.
Valerie was murdered by her husband who has remained the official guardian of her children.

I have been calling on Justice Minister to change the law so that character references in sentencing for serious offences are given under oath.
This would ensure that those giving references understand seriousness of doing so & ensures that they can be cross examined.

🚨 NEW: We have completed the detailed scrutiny stage of my legislation, Victims of Sexual Violence Civil Protection Orders Bill.
Hopefully this bill, which will prevent abusers from approaching victims even after a prison sentence, will quickly move now to the committee stage.
