IPSA has proposed a 5% pay rise for MPs.
But for the staff who handle casework, answer calls and keep parliamentary offices running?
Just 3.5%, and even that’s uncertain.
If rising workloads justify a rise at the top, fairness should apply across Parliament.

SEND reform must recognise the key role of school support staff.
Responding to the Government’s announcement on SEND funding, Lisa Bangs, GMB Senior Organiser, said:
“Additional funding for SEND provision is very welcome, but the Government’s plans must recognise those staff at the forefront of meeting the needs of SEND pupils: school support staff.
We know there are increasing numbers of SEND pupils in London and yet there is a lack of training and recognition for the staff working with those pupils.
Recruiting and retaining skilled and dedicated support staff requires ensuring they are valued, trained, and paid properly. The failure to do this means some areas are struggling to retain experienced staff.
We have consistently called for job descriptions to be updated to reflect the responsibility support staff have for SEND provision and for recognition of their valuable work through the payment of SEND allowances.”

✅ Introduce a proper SEND allowance that reflects responsibility and skill
✅ Re-evaluate job roles so grades match the real duties
Support staff and teaching assistants are not “extra”. They are the infrastructure of our schools. If the money exists for six-figure salaries at the top, it has to exist for decent pay and stability on the frontline. #MembersFirst

When contractors change, your rights shouldn't. A group of our members at Sizewell C were told by their new employer that they weren't eligible for TUPE. GMB London said otherwise.
After a hard-fought campaign, we’ve secured:

✅ Continued use of fleet vans for door-to-door travel.
✅ Protection of enhanced overtime & extra annual leave.
✅ A weekly uplift of £100–£150 moving forward.
