Incredible progress has been made on wildfires in both Washington and Oregon. This is a view of nighttime firing Ops on the Kaiser Canyon Fire near Nespelem, WA. The fire is now 136,870 acres and 52% contained. Next door, the Sinlahekin Fire is 126,168 acres.

Down in Oregon, the larger complex fires all have significant containment, with the least contained fires in the PNW being those in wilderness areas. There are 436 crews, 1,033 engines, and 94 helicopters in the region, for a total of 18,637 fire personnel assigned to PNW fires. The Widemouth 2 Fire in Millard county, Utah has exploded in size to 84,400+ acres, and remains 0% contained. At 0600 today, a transfer of command took place with Great Basin Complex Incident Management Team 2 taking command of the fire.

On the west side of the fire, crews are securing lines around Fillmore, Kanosh, Meadow, and Chalk Creek while scouting dozer line construction along forest boundaries toward the Wild Goose fire footprint.

On the east side, fire personnel have triaged approximately 20 cabins and outbuildings while establishing holding options near the Newton Rock Trail and Devil’s Armchair. Firefighters continue leveraging heavy air support on the southern edge of the fire to secure the active fire perimeter and suppress spot fires.

A community meeting will be held tonight in Richfield, at the Sorensen Administration Building, Room 146, at 7PM.
