Miami Dade College proudly celebrates Eduardo Salcedo on his selection to the 2026 Business-Higher Education Forum (@BHEF) Faculty Innovation Fellows Cohort.
The 2026 cohort represents 22 fellows across 20 institutions in 15 states, spanning approximately 15 disciplines. Each fellow was selected to launch or accelerate the adoption of novel and promising practices that expand student access to AI-enabled skills, credentials, and career pathways.
At MDC, his work in AI, app development, and industry certifications is already preparing students for the workforce of tomorrow, and now that impact will grow on a national stage.
Miami Dade College is proud to be featured in @MiamiTodayNews “Best of Miami,” recognizing the forces shaping our region into a leading technology hub.
We are advancing the talent pipelines that power Miami’s innovation economy through industry-aligned programs in artificial intelligence, applied technology, and workforce training.
By strengthening partnerships and prioritizing career-connected learning, we are equipping students with the skills and experience needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving global economy and to help drive Miami’s continued growth.
Our MDC students are gearing up to begin their summer internships across the city as part of the Miami Startup Ecosystem program, supported by @blackstone LaunchPad and JPMorgan Chase.
To help students prepare for their internships, we hosted an Internship Prep Day at the Blackstone Miami office, where they participated in coaching sessions led by Blackstone employees, gaining career advice, networking strategies, and insights on navigating the workplace. We’re grateful to the Blackstone team for sharing their time and expertise, and for helping us build career‑ready talent right here in South Florida.
Dr. Shannon Kennedy is more than a professor, she’s a mentor, leader, and advocate for student success. From the classroom to research to student organizations, she brings empathy, insight, and real-world perspective to everything she does.
As one of Miami Dade College’s Endowed Teaching Chairs, Dr. Kennedy empowers students to think critically, grow confidently, and make an impact beyond campus. It’s faculty like Dr. Kennedy who make the MDC community truly one of a kind.
Today at the Freedom Tower, we honored the memory of the four Brothers to the Rescue pilots whose lives were taken in the pursuit of freedom, humanitarian service, and human dignity.
Their sacrifice became part of a larger story carried by generations of Cubans who refused to surrender the ideals of liberty and democracy.
We are grateful to the United States Department of Justice for its continued pursuit of justice and accountability in the indictment of Raúl Castro and others connected to the murder of these brave men. For the families of the victims and for so many who have suffered under the tyranny of the Cuban regime, this moment represents the enduring belief that truth matters, justice matters, and crimes against freedom cannot be forgotten.
The Freedom Tower remains a powerful symbol of refuge, resilience, and hope for families who arrived in America seeking the freedoms denied to them under oppression.
During our commemoration of Cuba’s Independence Day at the Freedom Tower, we were joined by local and state leaders, along with members of the Cuban exile community.
Thank you to @JayCollinsFL, @MayorDaniella, and the many community and state leaders who joined us to mark this important day.
As part of the program, we reflected on Cuba’s continued pursuit of freedom, the importance of building a constitutional and democratic government on the island that leads to real self-governance.
Today, at our historic Freedom Tower, we commemorated el 20 de mayo, Cuba’s Day of Independence, by looking back at the island’s history together with students from across Miami-Dade County.
School of Advanced Studies at Wolfson, @westlandhialeah, and International Studies Charter, as well MDC students, spent the day engaging with history up close, viewing Cuba’s original 1901 Constitution, presented in partnership with the Florida Cultural Heritage Center, and toured our Libertad exhibit, which reflects the experiences and contributions of the Cuban exile community. They then joined a conversation on Cuba’s path to freedom and the legacy of its founding with political strategist Ana Carbonell, MDC professor Jorge Malagón, and Daniel Pedreira, visiting professor at FIU and former MDC faculty member.
By bringing people into these spaces and conversations, we’re helping ensure that the story of Cuba’s fight for freedom is understood, remembered, and carried forward by the next generation.
We’re partnering with @JacksonHealth to launch the Health Science Collegiate Academy in Miami’s Health District.
Starting in August 2027, this Academy will enable high school students to take college-level coursework while getting early exposure to clinical environments and healthcare careers at Jackson and beyond.
This model builds on a long-standing partnership with Jackson and other healthcare leaders to create clearer, earlier pathways into the health workforce for our local talent. It allows us to grow our very own local talent, invest in them early, and keep them here to help continue building Miami into a world-class leader in healthcare.
Today, Miami Dade College proudly served as a convener for Florida’s Commissioner’s Summit on Campus and School Safety, hosted in collaboration with @StasiKamoutsas and the @EducationFL.
K–12 superintendents, college and university presidents, and local and state law enforcement leaders came together to share best practices and strengthen the safe, supportive environments our students deserve.
During the summit, @GovRonDeSantis signed HB 757, Florida’s School Safety bill, advancing critical tools and resources to help postsecondary institutions across the state continue strengthening campus safety.
At MDC, we believe student success begins with environments where students feel safe, supported, and empowered to thrive.
Congratulations to Dr. Marie Etienne, a distinguished faculty member at Miami Dade College’s Benjamín León School of Nursing, on receiving the Nurse Award from the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.
With decades of service in the classroom and across the profession, Dr. Etienne has dedicated her career to preparing the next generation of nursing professionals, shaping leaders in pediatrics, geriatrics, family practice and more.
Her commitment to excellence, innovation and service continues to inspire our students and strengthen the future of healthcare.
MDC is hosting Florida Commissioner of Education @StasiKamoutsas this week for the Commissioner’s Summit. Today’s covening of college and university presidents and trustee chairs from across the @FLCollegeSystem and the @SUS_Florida focused on how, together, we’re preparing the talent our state needs to remain competitive in today’s economy.
From expanding apprenticeship programs and rapid credentials that connect students to in-demand careers, to strengthening 2+2 pathways that make it easier to start at a college like MDC and finish at a state university, this work is about creating clear, accessible routes to real opportunities and jobs.
When we align around these strategies, we’re ensuring that more Floridians are ready to step into high-demand roles and build meaningful careers.
We hosted the Florida State Board of Education this morning at Miami Dade College.
Our School of Justice Honor Guard presented the colors, followed by a moving national anthem from Kennedi Duke, a New World School of the Arts student.
During the meeting, @StasiKamoutsas , FL's Commissioner of Education, recognized one of our own, Honors College industrial engineering major Felipe Salles Varallo, whose research in biofuels and water quality reflects the kind of real-world learning and leadership our students take on every day.
Always good to welcome colleagues from across the state to MDC. We’re grateful for the recognition of our students and the work they’re leading in and outside the classroom.
The MDC Idea Center just kicked off its Summer 2026 Miami Startup Ecosystem Internship Program.
This summer, nearly 50 students will step into paid internships and hands-on roles across Miami’s startup and small business scene. At the kickoff, they spent the day getting grounded in the essentials - how to build strong mentorships, navigate networking, and get things done and add real value in a work environment - before heading into a summer working alongside founders and small business owners building right here in Miami.
Supported by Blackstone LaunchPad and JPMorganChase, the program has connected nearly 100 students with 50 companies, with more placements on the way, continuing to strengthen the bridge between MDC talent and Miami’s innovation economy.
Every @TheJKCF Scholar has a powerful story behind them, and this year’s MDC Scholars are no exception.
As Honors College students, they’ve excelled academically, but what truly sets them apart is their grit. They’re first-generation college students balancing classes, jobs, and family responsibilities, pushing forward because they know education changes everything.
Chosen from more than 1,300 applicants nationwide and among just 60 selected, they’ve earned one of the most competitive scholarships in the country, up to $55,000 a year in scholarship to help them complete their undergraduate studies. In the U.S. nearly 80% of community college students aspire to earn a bachelor’s degree but only 16% reach that goal. This scholarship ensures that top students who start at MDC complete their degrees at the nation's top institutions.
David, Maria, Johnny, we’re cheering you on and know you’ll accomplish great things. Thank you for choosing MDC to start your journey.
