I read somewhere that, in the middle ages in Europe, a crude form of football was very popular amongst the soldiers. It had to be banned as soldiers started neglecting archery and sword fighting for football.

Yes. Somewhat.

When a business person has only daughters, the transition does happen

And it happened even in earlier generations like with KK Birla's daughters or Dr Reddy's

But even in a recent Business magazine issue on next gen leaders, it was clear:

Some business houses still did not have daughters leading or participating in the next gen businesses (sometimes daughters in law would have some role but not the daughters - Indian family things!)

When there were sons and daughters, the daughter would get 'some' business but not the main or the flagship one

With only a couple of exceptions, that was the case.

As for India being a matriarchy before the British came, even in Mahabharat time it was not a matriarchy 🤦

Women could not wield power directly - if they wanted power, they had to play games to get it via their husband or their son
