Few cousins and their family never wish you luck before exams, never congratulate you after results, never call on birthdays.
But for 7–8 years, every backache, knee pain, fever, prescription doubt, or “just one small medical question” comes to you.
This year finally i stop responding to these one sided relationship calls, but i was told, “Be cordial. Sometimes you do it for optics in society”
Maybe.
But where does cordiality end & one-sided access begin?
I feel we are often expected to be endlessly available to extended family members, even when the relationship has otherwise had no warmth, reciprocity or basic acknowledgement. Specially after I have become a Psychiatrist, should I just have endless empathy?
I don’t mind helping in such trivial matters. It takes me nothing to guide for backache or osteoarthritis or read them their general blood investigations. I mind being treated like a free emergency counter by people who otherwise don’t even pretend to care..
What’s the healthier boundary here? What’s your take?
There was a time I used to paint
Things die within you when you are in residency
Ab mujhe jab bhi time milta hai I just sleep
I used to love painting
Now I just love sleep
Idk it was not something I wanted
There is a reason why top business people (even from India) give best education to their kids.
You'd often see them sending their kids to Harvard, Wharton etc. It is also common for these kids to work with top firms like BCG, McKinsey, Goldman Sachs.
These experience, education shapes them. It allows them to understand the complicated world we live in.
They end up developing 2nd order thinking. And, are good at crafting long-term plans for their business.
Result: when they go in a room and talk to 100 people. They can express their viewpoints coherently. And, command respect.
Education becomes a tool for them to become confident (from within).
Uneducated politicians have no 2nd order thinking. Their only strategy is to appear grand & relatable.
That helps them win election. But, not economy.
Our policies do not have any long-term vision.
These are botched up from the top. Why? because uneducated people make them.
You can argue: that oh bureaucrats make these policies? If you really believe that you're naive.
Reward uneducated leaders, get pathetic policies.
This shouldn't be a surprise.
If given a choice 99/100 people would want their own kids to be highly educated. But sadly we ignore this about our politicians.
Back in UG, I genuinely thought endometriosis wasn't that common.
Then I became a radiology resident.
I see endometriosis × 1000
We see sooooooo many patients with endometriosis (mostly with just endometrioma, but many with deep infiltrating endometriosis)!
Cwazyy!! #MedTwitter
Somewhere down the lane
I realise being a doctor is just so exhausting in a country where people lack common sense
Overall it just drains you completely and the pay is just not that good for the effort one puts in .
Plus anyone can buy a seat , so merit is just a joke ...
I’ll rephrase is so that people understand who is the real culprit.
Healthcare care infrastructure in govt hospitals is highly inadequate and Government and Political Parties have looted all citizens of their hard earned tax and still not able to provide basic services.
They have made your taxes a money making machine for themselves. They don’t care about you, your life - you’re just a number to fill their pockets. No transparency, just asking for money- vasooli but legal.
Becuase of their inefficiency- Indians who cannot afford Private healthcare are going to private hospitals and - who are providing world class services at cost which allows them to function profitably since they are not charity.
Instead of asking govt for accountability- we are blaming the wrong entity becuase we want Mercedes at the cost of Splendor. We are that entitled - but ofcourse - we won’t demand that entitlement from leaders.
