In a recent op-ed, our Team Member, Ms. Mehak Anwar, sheds light on a difficult truth: 4% of GDP: the promise Pakistan still refuses to meet.
Pakistan still spends far below the global benchmark on education while millions of children, especially girls, remain out of school. It’s time to turn commitments into classrooms, opportunities, and hope.

Every budget season in Pakistan arrives with promises of reform, with education once again presented as a state priority. Yet beyond the slogans lies a harsher reality: Pakistan continues to spend among the lowest proportions of GDP on education in South Asia despite facing one of the world's largest out-of-school populations. UNESCO recommends allocating at least 4-6% of GDP to education, but Pakistan's public spending remains between 0.8 and 2%, according to UNICEF and the Pakistan Economic Survey.

My op-ed published in today’s @etribune discusses how Pakistan still refuses to prioritise education with 4% of GDP.
Until girls become the centre of education financing, “reform” will remain only a headline..
