How many times are Chinatown seniors gonna get kicked out of/stopped from using a Chinatown public space?! Shame on the @CityofVancouver & @KenSimCity for celebrating our Chinatown when it suits their gentrification agenda but kicks out low income Chinese seniors when it doesn’t!

Despite being kicked out of a #ChinatownYVR public space at the very last minute by the @CityofVancouver for a film production, we persisted and had a blast at the Chinatown Variety Show featuring 28+ talented community performers + a new food local corner!

@CityofVancouver Public spaces should be community living rooms where people can gather to socialize and play.

Instead, @CityofVancouver prioritizes the private use of public spaces — a city that would rather be a movie set for the dead, than to allow its living communities to thrive.

This thread shows city council supports swagger/how things look to outsiders instead of local citizens using public places they have rightfully taken permits for. This is not how you run a city. Same council that is privatizing Vancouver spectacular views for developer profit.

This is a really good question. Here there was a permit in place to use this cultural place. But somehow the city’s new swagger/glitz and glam council department supporting downtown developers privatizing views also wins out in kicking out local people in exchange for Film Crews!
