Picture this: a mother in Kilifi, 9 months pregnant. ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐คฐ
Will a nurse be there? A safe delivery room? The right supplies?
That answer is decided before she walks in the door.
In rooms like the one we sat in this week. ๐
With Kilifi County + partners, we supported the 2026/27 RMNCAH Annual Work Plan through #KaleidoscopeProject.
One goal: make county priorities, partner resources + funding all point in the same direction. โ
When counties lead and partners plan together:
Less duplication. More coordination. Healthcare that actually reaches people.
This is health systems strengthening.
Not parallel projects. Working inside government systems so progress lasts. ๐
Stronger systems = every pregnancy safer, every newborn with a better start.

Mental health is a critical part of health security. To strengthen public health emergency preparedness and response, Africa CDC, with support from EMPHNET (Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network), has launched the 9-month Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) Mental Health Course, hosted by the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The course was officially launched by H.E. Dr. Amr Kandeel, Deputy Minister of Health for Preventive Medicine and Public Health of Egypt, marking an important step toward integrating mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) into field epidemiology practice.
Public health professionals from Egypt, Sudan, Somalia, the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, and Libya will spend the next nine months strengthening their skills to identify, analyze, and respond to the mental health impacts of public health emergencies.
By building this capacity, Africa CDC and partners are advancing stronger, more resilient health systems where mental health is recognized as an essential pillar of emergency preparedness and health security.

Today's @AfricaCDCYouth#YiDHN#Debate wasn't just a friendly exercise; it has proven that the question about where African health #data is kept/managed is not just about servers and storage. The message from our youth #debaters was clear: Agency over servers. Equity/collaboration over exploitation. Sovereignty over isolation.
It was not a one-side easy win; both teams had valid arguments and the debate has revealed at least a common foundation: we all want an Africa that is resilient, self-reliant and globally relevant. The 'winner' today was not one side of the argument, but the dialogue itself.

"Despite strong legislation by the Children's Act 2022, enforcement remains weak, especially where the state presence is not felt. Most child-headed families exist informally and are not captured in the social protection systems.
This makes the girls invisible to government welfare services. Kenya must urgently recognise child-headed households as high risk and ensure they are prioritised in the national protection agenda"- @EveWSasi
