Whitaker's Chapel, Enfield, North Carolina (United Methodist Church)
Originally an Anglican chapel dating to 1740, and in 1828 it was where the Methodist Protestant Church had its first Annual Conference as a denomination. Today an UMC historical site.
Methodists historically rejected infant dedication, until the 1968 merger of the Methodist Church USA and Evangelical United Brethren.
The Methodist Ordinary wholeheartedly supports infant baptism and not infant dedication. For baptism is truly God at work
Infant baptism is a testimony of the ancient church, of the doctrinal heritage of the Church Fathers, of our Wesleyan foundation as Methodists.
It is a blessing and more than a mere symbol, the active work of God the Holy Spirit.
“Another evil disease which every human soul brings into the world with him is pride—a continual proneness to think of himself more highly than he ought to think. Every man can discern more or less of this disease in everyone—but himself.”
- John Wesley
