I claimed my free post with you just for this lol - apologies for the long post + appreciate the shoutout in the article at the end🫡🫡

I think the first "main" reason why we disagree how they're going to look this year because of how low you are on the team from last year in general

They were "mediocre" but were +2.3 net with the 12th Off and 13th Def. This was around the same post ASB, but there was a drop off in the defense(probably a good point about the offense with that pace not being sustainable), but then they had the 4th best offense in that span too

That jumped to +6.7 with Bam on where they had the 7th best Off and 4th best Def. Yes, every team improves with their best player on but that still points to a team being a bit more than medicore if BAM of all people had that effect

You mentioned the Bucks still being dominant when Giannis played but they only had a +4.1 net with Giannis on. So it's either Bam is just that good or the team around him wasn't that bad

The Heat did lose Powell but they were -0.1 with him on and +2.6 without him. Bam/Powell were +2.2 and Bam without him was +6.1.

This was also a bigger trend as the year went on when Powell's production dropped. From Jan 1st, the Heat were -2.1 with him on and +4.8 without him. He didn't have much effect on player's individual stats. If anything he literally took away usage from every player(outside of Dru) and only improved Wiggins/Ware's efficiency.

Powell gone is, in his owns words about PG, addition by subtraction

The other people that were gone:
- Herro. They have been better without him in each season. He barely played and wasn't meshing with the team. THJ will 100% be better in that role(as was Duncan over Herro too)
- Ware. A clear big negative(understandable, still young and learning but still a negative)
- Kasp. Under 1k minutes played. I don't think that's enough to see a difference that he's gone
- Jaquez is the only one that was an actual loss

Mentioning about defense with THJ/Klay. The same Heat team that had Duncan/Herro/aging Goran/aging injured Kyle.

Staying on the defense. THIS point made me scream ngl.

Bam hasn't guaranteed a top 10 defense? Since becoming a starter, the Heat have not ranked lower than 7th in his minutes. They were top 5 in 4 of the seasons. They were literally 4th this season

There's no argument that Bam hasn't established himself as a walking top 10 defense

+ that argument can also be made for Spo. I know you said you don't want to bank on Spo doing his magic but almost 2 decades worth of history of different level of talent and STILL having a top 10 defense is undeniable. Even post big 3, since 2014, they had 1 season overall worst than 13th. They had more top 5 seasons than below 10

Speaking about Giannis defense. He doesn't have to be All-Defense at all. Giannis standing still is going to be better than Ware or Caleb or Haywood next to Bam. The bar is in absolute hell for what Giannis has to do with Bam there

No arguments against Wiggins part. If anything I'm probably more out on him than anyone.

I also agree fully about everything with Bam on offense. They are legit concerns and questions that we literally don't know. I have tweeted before that pretty much the ceiling on offensive fit lies entirely on Bam's development

I feel like those are concerning more of their ceiling in the playoffs. Them not having a reliable 2nd scorer(that's not Bam or Wiggins) is my biggest concern

But I'd also argue that they still have provided a bunch of evidence with the Heat being better than just mediocre, not losing out much that mattered in the trade, were just as good as anyone with Bam on, history of being an elite defense and simply Giannis is a top 5 player that should be enough to have them more in a conversation of top 5 than some projecting them being the 9th(!) seed

When having teams like Magic/Hawks above them. Or speaking about the Raptors in a whole different way when they have similar situations and concerns or giving Pacers the complete benefit of the doubt even though we haven't seen Haliburton play basketball since 2025
