A great wrinkle off GH Counter for Buster Faulkner was this PA GH Counter H Slide concept.
He makes it look like GH Counter and then leaks the pulling H to the flat.
Winning situations is more important than stats that look good on paper. You can grade out with multiple KD’s & still lose the game. You can dominate a game w/o recording a KD. The plays that matter most may not show up in highlights. Yes, those stats matter, but
•Did we eliminate negative plays?
• Did we convert short ydg?
• Did we score in the RZ?
• Did we create explosive runs?
• Were we successful on 1st dn?
• Did we protect the QB?
• Did we finish drives?
• Did we execute our 4 min off.?
Winning situations that correlate with winning games is more important than racking up stats that make you feel good. Great OL’s don’t just look dominant, they’re situationally dominant
Cover 0 is one of the most aggressive calls a defense can make because there is absolutely no deep safety help
Every eligible receiver is matched up, defenders are put on an island, and the success of the coverage depends on tight man coverage and pressure working together to speed up the quarterback’s clock
From a coaching standpoint, the goal of Cover 0 is simple: disrupt timing, stress protections, and force the offense to execute under pressure
When it’s executed correctly, it can create sacks, hurried throws, turnovers, and game-changing negative plays. The flip side is that there is very little margin for error. One missed tackle, blown assignment, or lost matchup can quickly turn into an explosive play
🔹 Coaching Points:
• Coverage and pressure must complement each other
• Maintain leverage and technique in man coverage
• Communicate versus motion, stacks, and bunch formations
• Rush with discipline and protect rush lanes
• Disrupt route timing at every opportunity
🔹 Scouting Perspective:
Cover 0 is one of the best ways to evaluate defensive talent because it forces players to win in true one-on-one situations
With no deep safety help available, weaknesses show up quickly and elite traits become even more apparent
Scouts are looking for:
• Press-man coverage ability
• Recovery speed and change of direction
• Route awareness and ball skills
• Football intelligence and communication
• Blitz timing and pass-rush effectiveness
• Competitiveness, toughness, and finishing ability
At its core, Cover 0 is about trusting your players to win isolated matchups while forcing the quarterback to make faster decisions under immediate pressure

Low red zone Keeper design from Kingsbury. The goal is to create a lot of traffic for the man defender on the #3 receiver to have to fight through. If he gets held up, it’s an easy touchdown in the flat. https://t.co/Cw1OIpEHm4
