@davidfrum I'm a democrat. And a liberal. And I am just utterly confused by how patriarchy, authoritarianism, anti-gay, and theocracy are a-ok as long as it is perpetrated by Palestinians. Would progressives be happy with the "free" government of Hamas wants to implement?
@johnpilger What confuses me is that everything Hamas embodies, and that their government would implement, (patriarchy, religious fundamentalism, antigay/trans, pro-death penalty, authoritarian) are those which the progressives obsessed with this issue would decry in any other situation.
@JessGrose 2/2 Sure, it's a complicated issue. But to act if Hamas are this bunch of freedom fighters. It makes me wonder if people really care about the issues they claim to or if something else is at play.
@JessGrose Agreed! And, many of the same people who cite patriarchy as the world's biggest problem, shout from the rooftops about gay and trans rights, and wear Handmaid's Tale outfits to protest theocratic policies gleefully cheer for Hamas. What is that?
@victorlavalle It's a truth I've been living lately. Writing something I know is imaginative and that I know has something to it. But it's a big blob of nonsensical chaos at this point.
