One of the things in the exhibit that I find so inspiring is the focus on the body and the myriad of skin tones seen in the paintings in the Met’s collection. For Danny Ramirez, I wanted to highlight the idea of skin tones but lean into sleek tailoring rather than bare the body. Danny’s suntan crepe double-breasted tuxedo is a blend of the provocative and the covered-up.” -Michael Kors

“Suki Waterhouse is a multi-hyphenate, my favorite kind of woman—musician, actress, model, mother and muse. I wanted her look to nod to classic Greek drapery, seen in so many sculptures at the Met, but done through a 21st century lens so that it’s dramatic yet totally modern at the same time. Her jersey halter bodysuit and goddess skirt come to life in a beautiful shade of rose quartz pink inspired by the rose-tone marble sculptures in the collection.” -Michael Kors

“For Devyn Garcia, we were really inspired by this year’s theme and the exhibit’s focus on the body. To highlight her fabulous curves and her confident strength, I designed a trompe l'oeil viscose jacquard crystal-embellished column that allows one to leave the house naked yet fully dressed.” -Michael Kors

Model Devyn Garcia’s custom Michael Kors Collection gown at the 2026 Met Gala was custom-engineered to her measurements and natural contours using a state-of-the-art Stoll knitting machine, and finished with thousands of individually placed crystals in three different sizes.

“I wanted Gabrielle Union to look like a shimmering mermaid with the appearance of being nude and glistening at the same time. Her cocoa crystal-encrusted tulle goddess gown is like a glamorous second skin and an homage to all the beautiful sculptures in the museum that focus on the nude body,” said Michael Kors.

“For Dwyane, the Met is full of so many pieces of art, both paintings and sculptures, that glorify the athletic body. I wanted to take the sleek tailoring of a timeless tuxedo and give it an athletic edge. This sleeveless black gabardine tuxedo is a blend of athleticism and sharp tailoring.” 

For Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union’s 2026 Met Gala looks, Michael Kors pulled inspiration from the sculptures and artwork within the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Union’s goddess gown required over 480 hours to embroider more than 107,000 crystals, in two different sizes, individually placed atop a layer of delicate tulle.
