Is there a connection between dumping and violence? We worked with communities experiencing high rates of illegal dumping and violence. We found that places that have repeated dumping, such as unmaintained vacant lots, have higher rates of violent crime.

Illegal dumping is a growing problem and environmental justice issue across the United States that particularly affects communities with elevated property vacancy. Links between blight and violence suggest that preventing illegal dumping may help prevent community violence.
