A New York Times investigation revealed that Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs), hired by employers and government programs to manage prescription drug benefits, have been underpaying small pharmacies. This practice has contributed to the closure of many local drugstores, ultimately benefiting larger PBMs, whose parent companies operate competing pharmacies. Congress can #EndSpreadPricing. That’s the shady practice when giant corporate middlemen (PBMs) charge insurance plans like Medicaid one price for prescription drugs and reimburse pharmacies a much lower price, keeping the difference for themselves.
