@mattyglesias A seriously, seriously under-discussed aspect of Silicon Valley’s right-coded/antiestablishment lurch is seeing what Bill Hewlett’s fortune is being used to further.
@AndrewSshi I spend a lot of effort deliberately looking away. Fortunately, the History Department at the University of Texas did a very good job showing me how 90+% of what people think they know is bullshit, so I’ve spent my adult life with scale-less eyes.
@AndrewSshi@marwood_lennox Fuck that, I'm the same age my stuffy, out-of-touch dad was the year after I graduated from college. (*sobs* *pulls back muscle*)
@AndrewSshi I remember the first day I felt old. I was standing on a corner in San Francisco, and a bus went by with a picture of one of the Giants on it, and I thought 'Damn, he looks like a kid.' He won the Cy Young award that year.
@zenpundit@AndrewSshi Oh, I think a decent percentage of them are now table stakes if you want to grovel successfully.
This is, of course, nothing new under the sun. Oxford 1854 and all that.
@AndrewSshi NB: Early voting in the Republican primary is currently underway, and I'm guessing he knows something he doesn't like about his chances of avoiding a run-off.
@AndrewSshi I've always been partial to the theory that many aliens would regard a planet that's 70% surface water with a ~20% oxygen atmosphere as a toxic hellworld, and once undeniable signs of intelligence started emanating from it, would run the other direction as fast as they could.
@AndrewSshi AISD slotted me into the Bad at Math track (which you'll find funny, knowing what I do for a living), but what I really was was Bad at Following Directions I Don't Understand. Our Math pedagogy is inadequate to the number of people we need to make it past calculus these days.
