Hizbullah’s attack today against a covert IDF military reconnaissance HQ in Arab al Aramshe, which reportedly resulted in 18 casualties so far, is a qualitatively superior and escalatory response to Israel’s assassination of Hizbullah fighters yesterday. It’s also a crucial message to Israel and its allies that if they choose to expand the conflict by striking Iran and Hizbullah, it won’t just be confronting Iran’s conventional military force, but a hybrid response. Despite the current fixation on analysing Iran’s conventional military capabilities vis-a-vis Israel, today’s attack serves as an important reminder that Israel and its allies will be facing an unprecedented hybrid coalition of actors which have superior asymmetric capabilities should this war expand.
