On Hantavirus: a (non-technical) thread.
Disclaimer: I am a biology PhD, but not virology/epidemiology. Husbandman is a virology PhD. But I’m told I’m good at communicating science, so here’s my take.

Sci-Hub, the evil website that pirated 88M+ research papers and made them freely available has added another evil feature.
If you run a DOI and open a paper, Sci-Hub can give you similar and related papers.
Click on the three horizontal dots or the arrow and it will show you similar papers.
Don't do it.
@fperrywilson@MystMarkdown@quarto_pub@curvenote is a publishing platform built around the same concept. Imagine a radiology journal where you can interactively scan through the slices of an MRI instead of looking at a pixelated, static image.
First in our two-day mini-series of virtual posters, find out how a community-integrated intervention in Malakal, South Sudan, overcame a lack of toys and limited space to assist severely malnourished children’s recovery through psychostimulation including play.
J Piper at @ZvitamboZim et al wanted to know how to measure school-age mental health and resilience in rural Zimbabwe, and tested child mental health and resilience scales to find out. See the promising results here.
In our third virtual poster, see how newborn survival improved in rural Guatemala thanks to a neonatal home visitation program integrating digital health tools and centering Indigenous practices to overcome structural barriers to care.
@EliahuHorwitz@NeurIPSConf@alfcnz This is gorgeous! And yes still very much down for this team-up. Curious to learn your insights myself, actually!
Spent the summer analyzing data from tracking attendee visits to posters at a large conference, so have a bunch of fresh examples to work with.
#NeurIPS2025 poster ✅
Catch me at @NeurIPSConf next week — poster #1014, Thursday morning to hear about why we should chart the Model Atlas🗺️
We're also organizing a small, informal “grab a drink” meetup for anyone into weight-space learning & model populations — stay tuned👀
Play a little game and choose the right icon for each role in science.
Play our CRediT Roles icon game/survey, and help make scientific authorship clearer and more accessible!

PSA: Last week, Affinity Studio (major Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop alternative) went completely 'free forever'. This makes pro-grade design software accessible to PhD students.

I suspect they're just using new owner Canva's mountain of cash to obliterate Adobe's market share in one swing, but...I'm okay with that?
Help us improve the design scientific presentation slides. Go through some example slides in our study: 🙏

Which slide designs work best, scientifically? Help us figure it out! Need a LOT of people to take this survey to get some answers: 🙏

Doctors Without Borders goes #betterposter! Our #ScienceUX community created an evidence-based poster template to improve science communication at the DWB/MSF Pediatric conference this year.

Proud of my recent first scientific poster presentation at the @sams_usa 23rd International Conference in Damascus!
Many poster design insights from @mikemorrison !
@Aartideetoo@outofofficedaku Selfishly, I want you to pick Hong Kong and we can have lunch (or dinner/breakfast)!
HK/KLC both have brain-breakingly lavish malls and cool buildings.
In HK, you can get nature, city, and culture all in a day.
But, KLC is also an amazing melting pot.
I'm a fan of the #BetterPosters approach to academic research poster design. So at @CARLProgram#CARLoquium, I ran down the expo hall and stopped for any poster whose design caught my eye. Here are my favorites.🧵
Got to work with 120 Early Career Researchers on poster + presentation design at NSF EPSCoR.
Nearly exploded Google Docs with 120 simultaneous people playing presentation slide & poster design games.
After 5 years, still my favorite group!
